KUALA LUMPUR: A family wefie taken moments before Air India's ill-fated Ahmedabad-London flight has gone viral after stirring the hearts of netizens. In the picture, Dr Kaumi Vyas, her husband Pratik Joshi and their three children – Miraya and twins Pradyut and Nakul – could be seen posing with smiles in the plane cabin before Flight AI171 crashed on Thursday. They were among the 260 lives lost in the incident, reported the Press Trust of India (PTI). The Hindustan Times reported that the family, from Banswara city in southern Rajasthan, was flying to London to begin a new life. Joshi, who worked in London, had returned to India to accompany his wife and children in their relocation. Dr Vyas, who worked at a private hospital in India, had taken and shared the picture on social media before the plane took off. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with 242 people and 12 crew members on board, went down 33 seconds after takeoff at 1.38pm, destroying buildings as it ploughed into a residential area and medical college hostel. Only one passenger survived and the tragedy is one of India's deadliest aviation disasters in recent years.

Authorities have so far confirmed that 11 of the passengers who died in the crash hailed from Rajasthan. Alongside the Joshi family, four other Udaipur residents also lost their lives. Shubh Modi, 24, and his 22-year-old sister Shagun were both on board. They were the children of renowned marble businessman Pinku Modi and were pursuing higher education abroad. Vardi Chand Menaria and Prakash Menaria, from Rundeda village in Udaipur district, were also among those who perished. Another young life lost was that of 27-year-old Khushboo Rajpurohit from Balotra. "Visited the crash site in Ahmedabad today. The scene of devastation is saddening. Met officials and teams are working tirelessly in the aftermath. Our thoughts remain with those who lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy," posted PM Modi on X. Out of them, 241 people died and just one person survived who is undergoing treatment. However, the people on the flight were not the only ones who died in the tragedy. At least 260 people lost their lives due to the crash of the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. The plane, which took off at 1.38 pm on June 12, crashed just 33 seconds into the flight near a residential locality. It also rammed an intern's hostel of the BJ Medical College building.
