NEON Kicks Off KEEPER Marketing with Unnerving Teaser From LONGLEGS Director Osgood Perkins — GeekTyrant
If you've been keeping tabs on the ever-escalating weirdness that is Osgood Perkins' horror films, you're in for another treat, or perhaps a psychological trap. NEON has just kicked off the first wave of promotion for Keeper , and it's as cryptic, creepy, and quietly hypnotic. Just a reminder, this movie is coming from the filmmaker who brough us Longlegs and The Monkey . It all started with a simple post on X. NEON shared an image of a dusky wooded area bathed in amber light, captioned with just enough to raise the hairs on your arms: "12:06PM PST. Begin the dark trip." Hours later, NEON dropped a one hour a YouTube livestream that plays like a piece of unsettling performance art. It features a young woman with her head slumped on a desk, methodically drawing circles in a notebook with a pen. That's it. That's the whole video and it's over an hour long. At the very end. she finally lifts her pen, revealing the film's title: 'Keeper – a dark trip from Osgood Perkins.' It's pure dread by way of ASMR. Perkins has developed a reputation for wrapping his horror projects in immersive and fun marketing campaigns. Last year, the viral rollout of Longlegs was a slow-burn descent into madness, using bizarre images and out-of-context footage to build anticipation before audiences even knew what the movie was. Keeper seems to be following a similar path, and it's already working. Discussing Film briefly shared two images reportedly from Keeper , one showing a blood-soaked figure mid-scream, the other of a secluded cabin nestled in the woods. The photos have since been removed. As for the story, Bloody Disgusting reports: "Keeper follows a couple as they escape for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin. When Malcolm (Sutherland) suddenly returns to the city, Liz (Maslany) finds herself isolated and in the presence of an unspeakable evil that unveils the cabin's horrifying secrets." Tatiana Maslany ( She-Hulk, Orphan Black ) and John Sutherland are stepping into what's shaping up to be a psychological, and possibly supernatural, descent into terror. There's no release date yet, no full trailer, and very few answers. But that's exactly how Osgood Perkins likes it.

Calgary Confederation: Spectre of vote-splitting raised in hotly contested race
Article content It was 12:06 p.m. on a Friday in late March when Corey Hogan received an unexpected call from the Alberta election readiness chair for the Liberal Party of Canada. Article content Article content 'She says, 'Keeper's out. It's going to be public in about an hour,' ' Hogan recalls. Article content The previously announced Liberal candidate in Calgary Confederation, Thomas Keeper, had been dropped and the party needed a replacement. Hogan had been in earlier conversations about a potential run but had made it clear he would only consider running in Confederation — his home riding — which already had a candidate at the time. Article content Article content Hogan is vice-president of communications and community engagement at the University of Calgary and is known for his political punditry, also for co-hosting The Strategists podcast. He previously led communications for both former Alberta premiers Rachel Notley and Jason Kenney. But this is his first time on the ballot. Article content He flips through photos of his wife and three children, who went ahead with a family trip to Japan without him. Hogan stayed behind, and would spend hours of the day campaigning around his own neighbourhood of Crescent Heights, where bus stop benches lining Edmonton Trail, Kensington Road and elsewhere are still plastered with Keeper's face. Article content Article content Calgary Confederation has been one of the most closely watched ridings in Calgary this election, considered by political analysts to be one of the few Alberta constituencies where a Liberal win is within reach. Article content Article content Since forming ahead of the 2015 federal election, the riding has been held by Conservative Len Webber. In 2015, the Liberals came within about 2.4 percentage points of taking the seat. But in the past two elections, the Conservatives have strengthened their hold on the riding, securing just over 45 per cent of the vote in 2021, while Liberal support hovered just below 28 per cent. Article content Article content This year, polling and seat forecasts suggest the race is neck-and-neck between Liberals and Conservatives. The latest 338Canada projections show the Liberals holding a narrow lead in Calgary Confederation, with 45 per cent support compared to 44 per cent for the Conservatives. The NDP trails at six per cent. Article content Calgary Confederation includes diverse neighbourhoods like Crescent Heights, Dalhousie and Highland Park, and is home to three post-secondary institutions. It's also a hot spot of concerns about progressive vote splitting. Article content 'It's a very close race,' says Hogan. 'If (voters) are thinking about voting NDP, I'd ask them to consider me as a candidate because this could be a real opportunity to give different representation in Calgary Confederation, which is probably the least conservative part of the city.'

Liberals drop Rod Loyola as Edmonton candidate with less than a month to go before polls open
The Liberals have dropped Rod Loyola as an Edmonton-area candidate in the federal election race, the latest dismissed from party ranks since the campaign began. In a statement to CBC News Friday, party officials confirmed that Loyola is out of the running. "Mr. Loyola is no longer our candidate for Edmonton Gateway," a party spokesperson said in the emailed statement. The party did not comment on its reasons for parting ways with Loyola. The party's decision to drop him as a candidate comes after the National Post reported they had found a video in which he appears to be praising Hezbollah and Hamas at an anti-NATO protest. Both are listed as terrorist groups in Canada. Loyola has not responded to request for comment. Loyola's time campaigning under the Liberal banner was brief. Loyola, a longtime Alberta NDP MLA, formally announced his campaign in the newly formed Edmonton Gateway riding nine days ago and held his formal launch party on Saturday. Loyola recently resigned his seat in the Alberta legislature to run in Edmonton Gateway to run for the Liberals. He was first elected in 2015, and won his third term representing the provincial riding of Edmonton-Ellerslie two years ago. Loyola's resignation from the Alberta legislature took effect in late March and will trigger a byelection. He is the latest candidate to be booted from the Liberal Party's roster, with less than a month to go before Canadians head to the polls. The party cut ties with Thomas Keeper in Calgary-Confederation last week over his failure to disclose a stayed domestic assault charge from 2005. Court records show that Keeper was charged with common assault on June 6, 2005. The complainant was Keeper's wife at the time, according to divorce records. The Liberals recently dropped Toronto-area Liberal incumbent Paul Chiang after he suggested people turn a Conservative candidate running in a nearby riding into the Chinese consulate to collect a bounty. Prior to the writ being dropped, the Liberals also announced Nepean MP Chandra Arya wouldn't be permitted to run for the seat again. Party officials have not commented on their plans to find a replacement for Loyola. The Conservatives have also dropped a number of candidates since the race began. Don Patel, who was campaigning for the Tories in Etobicoke North, is out of the running after engaging with a comment on social media that suggested that some people should be deported to India and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should "take care" of them. Mark McKenzie in southwestern Ontario was ousted over what the party described as "unacceptable" comments and Stefan Marquis in Montreal was dropped after he shared conspiracy theories on social media. The Conservatives also recently revoked the candidacy of Lourence Singh in New Westminster—Burnaby—Maillardville. According to Elections Canada rules, political parties have until Day 22 of the campaign to replace candidates. That would give parties until April 6 to find a new person to place on the ballot.
