Kauai struggles with power outages amid Severe Thunderstorm Warning
HONOLULU (KHON2) — KIUC crews have been responding to weather related outages since late Wednesday of 7:30 am Thursday morning, KIUC announced they are experiencing the following major outages:
Anahola to Haena: Total 3,781 members out over several outages
Kapaa: 76 members out
Kekaha: 119 members out
Kokee: 110 members out
Crews are responding and restoring power as weather conditions allow. Members are advised to remain prepared for extended outages.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Kauai
Current outages can be viewed on KIUC's Outage Map: Outage Center | Kauai Island Utility Cooperative. Each circle on the map represents an outage. Click on the circle for additional details including how many members are affected.
The outages are believed to be caused by gusty winds.
Wind gusts have been clocked at 25-45 mph.
