Kaizer Chiefs eye star winger but PSL club say hands off

Kaizer Chiefs have set their sights on red-hot winger Keletso Makgalwa, but Sekhukhune United have no intention of letting their star man go. Fuelled by reported talks with coach Nasreddine Nabi, the Limpopo club have drawn a bold line, Makgalwa is staying put. Whispers of Makgalwa bidding farewell to teammates recently surfaced via FARPost , sparking a frenzy of exit rumours. But Sekhukhune insiders were quick to dismiss the noise. Once a promising talent at Mamelodi Sundowns, Makgalwa spent much of his early career out on loan, turning out for Maritzburg United(now Durban City), Moroka Swallows, TS Galaxy, and All Stars. It wasn't until the 2023/2024 campaign with Upington City FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship that the winger hit his stride. He delivered 11 goals and 7 assists, 18 goal contributions that earned him a three-year contract with Sekhukhune United following his departure from Sundowns. Makgalwa hit the ground running in his debut season with Babina Noko. Playing a crucial role in the club's fourth-place league finish, the 28-year-old bagged six goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions. His creativity and finishing touch have made him one of the most influential players in the Betway Premiership this season. It's no surprise, then, that his name has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs, especially after Nabi was seen speaking to him following their 1–1 draw. Despite the attention, Sekhukhune are standing their ground. The club has made it clear they do not wish to sell their top talents to local PSL rivals. This mirrors last season's scenario when talks between Chiefs and Sekhukhune for Elias Mokwana fell through, leading to the player's move to Esperance of Tunisia instead. 'You get the idea that Makgalwa might leave but that Sekhukhune United won't sell locally,' a source told The South African . 'Before his move to Sekhukhune, there were reports of a move to Kaizer Chiefs. Apparently, there was a meeting, but somehow it didn't work out. Mokwana is an example of them choosing to move a player North instead of in the league.' Is Makgalwa the kind of star Kaizer Chiefs currently need? Kaizer Chiefs target wanted in Africa

Kaizer Chiefs are expected to welcome a couple of new wingers to Naturena next season. Keletso Makgalwa might not be on that list. A source has told a local outlet that the 28-year-old winger has been noticed in North Africa. 'What I can tell you at this point is that it's a team from North Africa. There are some talks and logistics that are still going on concerning the enquiry from the club and it is not the right time to divulge more information now. The source added on Soccer Laduma : 'But I promise you the interest is there and the move of Elias Mokwana has attracted more teams from North Africa to look at South Africa, and Keletso is the latest target. What about Kaizer Chiefs? 'There were different clubs which showed interest in Keletso locally and nothing happened,' the insder revealed. 'The one I know that really wanted him is believed to be Kaizer Chiefs. But at the moment the North African club is in the forefront that seems to be moving in faster on him,' he concluded. 'It's something obvious,' says Riveiro of Pirates' fatigue as Sekhukhune loss damages their league chances

'One game before the goal and another one after.' That was a perfect summary given by Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro after their costly 1-0 defeat in a Betway Premiership match against Sekhukhune United at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday. Indeed, the Buccaneers had controlled the game and created all the clear-cut chances before they failed to deal with Keletso Makgalwa's corner kick which was headed in by Nigerian defender Tresor Tshibwabwa in the 58th minute. In a myriad of chances wasted by Pirates before Sekhukhune silenced the Orlando crowd two stood out. In the first half Relebohile Mofokeng put right-back Bandile Shandu on one-on-one with Sekhukhune goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner but he chose to tap the ball over the bar. Just before Tshibwabwa scored in the second half, Kabelo Dlamini's corner kick reached Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi inside the box, but the teenager too blasted the ball over the bar. Riveiro said had Pirates taken their chances the result of this match would have been vastly different.
