Three rare (and adorable) quokkas have just landed in Sydney
Let's face it: with their ridiculously adorable smiles and expert selfie technique, quokkas are the ultimate mood-lifter. Now, these perennially chuffed furry marsupials are bringing that joy to Sydney – landing at Sydney Zoo for the first time ever. Known as the native smilers of Rottnest Island in Western Australia, quokkas have typically been out of reach for most Sydneysiders. But now, Sydney Zoo has officially welcomed three Quokkas (one male and two females) to Eastern Creek for the first time ever. Just in time for the school holidays, these three quokkas have settled into their new habitat and are ready to serve up big grins for the camera. 'These quokkas have already stolen our hearts,' said Sydney Zoo's Animal Care Manager, Kelly Davis. 'Their playful nature and unique behaviours make them fascinating to care for, and we can't wait for guests to experience their charm up close.' Whilst you might not always be able to get down in the dirt for a famous quokka selfie, you'll definitely be able to marvel at these fascinating marsupials as they explore their new home. Their impressive skills include the ability to stay hydrated from leaves, hop for long distances and store fat in their tails for when they need an extra energy boost – slay! If you're interested in helping name these cuties, Sydney Zoo is running a competition and they need your suggestions. Head here to have a crack at naming one of the quokkas. And if you're looking for your next heart-warming day out in Sydney, we'd suggest heading along to Sydney Zoo to share a smile with the jolly new residents.
