Kelly Pavlik to host charity boxing event for Valley kids
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Kelly 'The Ghost' Pavlik will host an amateur boxing card for his charity at the Maronite Center in Youngstown, Saturday, May 31, at 6 p.m.
The former middleweight champion's charity is The Kelly Pavlik Charitable Organization. He helps kids around the Valley with free boxing classes and services at his gym.
'Main goal of this is to get kids off the streets, get them in the gym after school for two hours a day, sometimes three hours, put some structure in their life and give them something to look forward to doing,' said Pavlik.
Pavlik said the funds also help his boxers get to tournaments. He is also in the process of funding counseling services and tutors for kids through his program.
'Enjoy it while the kids work, train them here and then be able to showcase what they're doing in here on Fight Night,' said Pavlik. 'They look forward to that and it's just fun to be a part of it and be able to host.'
The card will consist of 12-13 amateur fights with mostly fighters from the Valley. Four boxers from Pavlik's gym, Kelly Pavlik Championship Boxing, will be fighting.
Tickets are $25 at the door for general admission. Ringside is $400, seating eight people.
Those who want to buy tickets can do so at the door or go to the Maronite Center early during the day on Saturday to pick up tickets. Also, you can call 330-565-8665 for available tickets.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the first fight starts at 7 p.m.
All proceeds will go to the Kelly Pavlik Charitable Organization.
