No. 1 Texas A&M stunned by Liberty in College Station Regional
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (FOX 44) — Texas A&M softball lost to Liberty 8-5 to fall into the losers bracket and put itself one loss away from elimination.
The Aggies jumped out to a 4-0 lead with some help from Savanah Whatley who committed two errors at shortstop. Kramer Eschete drove in the first run and then Kelsey Mathis hit an RBI single to get the bats rolling.
Emiley Kennedy put together a pair of scoreless innings to start the game but the Flames put up three runs in the top of the third to keep the pressure on the Aggies.
Allie Enright brought home an insurance run in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly. Despite scoring five runs the Aggies struggled to string together hits, recording only five knocks all game.
In the sixth inning the Flames exploded for five runs on a couple of huge swings. Alyssa Henault roped a two run single into center field and then KK Madry unloaded on a two-run homer to give Liberty some breathing room. The Flames are just one more victory away from advancing to the Super Regionals.
Texas A&M will now have to fight back through the losers bracket. The Aggies will play the winner of Marist and Saint Francis later tonight at 6 PM. If A&M comes away with the win it would force the Aggies to defeat Liberty twice on Sunday.
