Libera breaks ground on new housing and community center for young women
MORGANTOWN, (WBOY) — Morgantown-based nonprofit Libera broke ground on Thursday for a new remodeling project that it says will help young women in need.
Once remodeled, the nearly 8,000-square-foot building will provide affordable housing for women aged 18-24 who are leaving foster care, coming out of the juvenile justice system, are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless.
The facility will offer a safe home for up to eight women, but it's more than just a place to live. It will also act as a community center, providing support services for all women in the area who need help.
Waldo Hotel one step closer to possible redevelopment
'Many of the girls we work with have never had consistent adult support. This new community will give them a safe place to belong, ask for help, and find hope for their future,' Incoming Executive Director Kelsey Riggi told 12 News.
The building was purchased in December 2024, and the organization hopes to have it ready for residents by January 2026. The total cost of the project is $1.6 million If you would like to donate to Libera or just learn more about the non-profit you can visit its website.
