Chris Pratt mourns Jonathan Joss death after Parks and Recreation co-star fatally shot in San Antonio
Actor Chris Pratt has paid tribute to his Parks and Recreation co-star Jonathan Joss following news of the actor's death in a fatal shooting in San Antonio, Texas. Joss, best known for portraying Chief Ken Hotate in five episodes of the NBC sitcom between 2011 and 2015, was pronounced dead at the scene on Sunday, June 1. He was 59. Reacting to the news, Pratt shared a message on his Instagram Story: 'Damn. RIP Jonathan. Always such a kind dude. He played Ken Hotate in Parks and was also in Mag 7. Sad to see. Prayers up. Hug your loved ones.' Nick Offerman, who played Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation, also reflected on the loss, telling People magazine: 'The cast has been texting together about it all day and we're just heartbroken. Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy.' Joss's husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, claimed in a Facebook post that the couple had been subjected to ongoing homophobic harassment in their neighborhood, including threats and a house fire. He alleged they had received repeated warnings that their home would be set on fire. However, the San Antonio Police Department stated there is currently 'no evidence to indicate Mr. Joss' murder was related to his sexual orientation.' As the investigation continues, friends and colleagues are remembering Joss for his kindness and significant contributions to television and film.

According to San Antonio police, Joss died in a shooting on Saturday, Variety reported. He was 59. San Antonio officers were dispatched to a shooting in progress at a home on Sunday night around 7 p.m. When they arrived at the scene, they "found Joss near the road after he was shot multiple times." The officers attempted life-saving measures until medics arrived, but Joss was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooter fled in a vehicle but was detained by officers a block away and booked for murder. Joss voiced John Redcorn from Season 2 through Season 13 of "King of the Hill" and already recorded lines for the upcoming revival of the popular animated series. He took over the role from original actor Victor Aaron after he died in 1996 in a car accident, as per Variety. 'Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy.' Jonathan's death was confirmed by the San Antonio Police Department, per TMZ. According to the outlet, the 59-year-old was killed after a neighbor allegedly fired several bullets from a vehicle before driving away from the scene. Sigfredo Alvarez-Cega was arrested on June 2, in connection to the crime and charged with murder. He is being held on a $200,000 bail, per TMZ. E! News has reached out to San Antonio authorities as well as reps for Jonathan but has not yet heard back. Jonathan's husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales shared a message on his Facebook, where he remembered Jonathan's final moments and thanked fans for their support. 'I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved,' Tristan wrote on June 2. 'To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. He saw you as family. My focus now is on protecting Jonathan's legacy and honoring the life we built together.' He continued, 'Jonathan saved my life. I will carry that forward. I will protect what he built.'

"Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic. "When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw. "While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired. "Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life. Article continues below "Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We picked Valentines Day. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future. "He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other. "I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved. (sic)"
