Roupe hits 2 HRs to help Liberty eliminate No. 1 Texas A&M with 6-5 win, advance to super regionals

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Rachel Roupe hit two home runs for Liberty, Savannah Jessee hit a two-run shot and the Flames beat No. 1 Texas A&M 6-5 on Sunday night to win the Bryan-College Station Regional and eliminate the top-seeded Aggies. Liberty (50-13) will play host to the winner between No. 13 seed Arizona and Mississippi in the super regionals next weekend. KK Madrey drew a lead-off walk in the sixth, Paige Doeer and Rachel Crane struck out swinging before Jessee homered to make it 3-3. JaMaya Byrum walked on four consecutive pitches, Savannah Woodard followed with a single and Roupe hit a shot off the scoreboard in left field to give the Flames a 6-3 lead. Kaylan Yoder replaced starter Elena Escobar (25-3) with one out and runners on first and second. Kennedy Powell flied out and Koko Wooley's infield single scored Kramer Eschete to cut Texas A&M's deficit to 6-5 before Mya Perez flied out to end the inning. Yoder struck out Eschete to end the game and earn her first save of the season. Amari Harper led off the second with a single a KK Dement followed with a home run that gave the Aggies (48-10) a 2-0 lead. Koko Wooley scored on a two-out single by Harper in the third. Kennedy Powell had a two-run single in the eighth inning as the Aggies forced a second game with a wild 14-11 win earlier Sunday. With the help of a Roupe grand slam in the second inning, the Flames took a 6-0 lead. Texas A&M scored the next 10 runs, including home runs by KK Dement, Mya Perez and Mac Barbara. The Aggies were up 11-7 going into the bottom of the seventh but Liberty tied it with four runs before Sydney Lessentine got the final out on a 3-2 pitch. The Aggies pounded out 18 hits and Liberty, which won the first matchup 8-5 on Saturday had six errors, the last opening the door in the top of the eighth. ___ AP college sports:

No. 1 Texas A&M forces decisive Regional Championship game

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (FOX 44) — It took getting out of a bases-loaded seventh inning and extra innings for the Aggies but Texas A&M Softball lives to fight another day, or game, after Kennedy Powell's 2-RBI single helped the Aggies to a thrilling 14-11 win in extra innings on Saturday afternoon. Liberty took a 6-0 lead early after two innings in large part due to a grand slam from Roupe with Emiley Kennedy's afternoon done after just one inning pitched, giving up four earned runs. Sydne Peters pitched just .2 innings, giving up two earned runs before Kate Munnerlyn entered the circle. The Aggies got on the board in the third inning before KK Dement lit a fire under the Aggies with a solo shot to left in the fourth, triggering a six run inning to give A&M the lead back, 7-6. Texas A&M extended the lead to 10-6 with a three-run fifth, leaving it to Munnerlyn to close it out in the circle. However, the task of extinguishing the Flames proved to be difficult no matter who was in the circle as Liberty scored four runs in the final inning to tie the game at 11 before Sydney Lessentine entered to get the Aggies out of the inning with the bases loaded and send it to extras. Powell took advantage of a bases-loaded spot for the Aggies driving in Kramer Eschete and Allie Enright on a base hit in the top of the eighth to give A&M the lead once again. Koko Wooley brought in Midway alum Kelsey Mathis to put the Aggies up three heading into the bottom half. Texas A&M will face Liberty in a winner-take-all Regional Championship on Saturday night with the winner advancing to the NCAA Super Regional Round next week. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Texas A&M stays alive in the Regional Round after thrilling 14-11 win over Liberty

Texas A&M stays alive in the Regional Round after thrilling 14-11 win over Liberty Texas A&M (48-10) is still alive in the College Station Regional after defeating Liberty (49-13) in the first elimination game of the final round, as late offense pushed the Aggies forward in one of the craziest games of the weekend. After trailing 6-0 heading into the third inning, Texas A&M's bats helped mount an incredible comeback. On the mound, ace Emiley Kennedy surprisingly struggled after allowing four hits, replaced by Sidne Peters, who quickly allowed two runs, leading to Kate Munnerlyn allowing just one run in four innings, before disaster hit. To preface, Texas A&M regained the lead thanks to Mac Barbara, KK Dement, Koko Wooley, and Kennedy Powell producing four runs. In contrast, Maya Perez's two-run home run, combined with Barbara's solo shot, helped regain a 7-6 lead. Adding three more runs in the fifth, Liberty added a run in the sixth, and if it weren't for Maya Perez's RBI single in the seventh, Texas A&M would have been eliminated from the tournament. In the bottom of the seventh, with Munnerlyn still on the mound, the Aggies allowed Liberty to mount a four-run comeback after tying the game with two outs on the board after a walk-in run with bases loaded. While head coach Trisha Ford deserves criticism for leaving Munnerlyn in, she opted to bring in Sydney Lessentine, who helped the Aggies after a pop-up ended the inning. Like they've done all season, the Aggies fought back in the eighth, as Kennedy Powell's single led to two runs while Koko Wooley's groundout scored Kelsey Mathis to help take a 14-11 lead. Thanks to Lessentine's pitching, Texas A&M ended the game at the bottom of the eighth with three quick outs, leading to Sunday night's regional final to move on to the Super Regional Round. Texas A&M and Liberty will face off at 7:10 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN2.
