Son of Oregon football legend commits to Oregon State Beavers
Over 30 years ago, Kenny Wheaton scored, and in a sense, helped turn around the trajectory of the Oregon Ducks football program with his legendary pick-six against the Washington Huskies, memorialized simply as "The Pick."
Now, his son, Kai Wheaton, is going to have a chance to score, too. However, he will be trying to do so as a member of one of the Ducks' biggest rivals.
On Wednesday afternoon, Wheaton announced that he was officially committing to the Oregon State Beavers. As a 3-star recruit rated by the 247Sports composite as the No. 1,218 player in the class, Wheaton will now suit up in the black and orange and play in Corvallis for the start of his college career. Wheaton stands at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds.
While Kenny Wheaton is undoubtedly happy that his son will be continuing on the family legacy and playing D1 college football, it's fair to think that there was a conversation or two about why the Beavers were the ultimate choice.
Wheaton also had offers from the Houston Cougars, California Golden Bears, Arizona Wildcats, Memphis Tigers, and Colorado Buffaloes.
