Investigation launched after lorry crashes on M20 in Kent
Police say they are investigating a "serious collision" on the M20. Kent Police said it was called shortly after 15:15 BST on Thursday to the incident on the junction nine slip road of the M20 coastbound.A lorry had left the carriageway, the force said. Eastbound between J8 and J9 on the M20, which runs between Ashford and Maidstone, was closed until just before 04:00 BST on Friday, according to National Highways. South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire & Rescue Service attended the scene. Kent Police appealed for anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of the crash to get in contact.

Kent Fire and Rescue tackle Gravesend recycling centre blaze
Fire crews are tackling a blaze at a recycling centre which broke out in the early hours of the Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) said it was called to Crete Hall Road in Gravesend shortly after 02:00 BST on fire engines were initially sent to the scene before the incident was escalated to six pumps at 05:30.A spokesperson for the fire service urged nearby residents to close their windows and doors to guard against the heavy smoke.

Chatham derelict school fire 'believed to be deliberate'
A blaze at a derelict Kent school building is believed to have been started deliberately, fire crews Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the disused St John Fisher school building in Ordnance Street in Chatham just before 18:30 BST on Saturday, 24 fire engines attended and extinguished before leaving shortly after 19:30, with no injuries reported.A spokesperson for the fire service said the cause of the far was "believed to have been started deliberately". The building has sat disused since 2022, when the school moved out of the building to City Way in Rochester.

Spitfire crash lands in a field before VE Day celebrations
A Second World War Spitfire crash landed in a field in Kent hours before VE Day celebrations were due to begin. The rare 82-year-old two-seater fighter landed on its belly in a crop field in West Hythe near Folkstone on Saturday evening. Despite visible damage to the propellers, the airframe appeared intact. The pilot and passenger were not injured, according to the vintage flight experience company that operates the aircraft. Kent Fire and Rescue Service said it dispatched two fire engines to the scene, assisting in making the area safe. One person was given care by paramedics. Maidstone nature bathing advocate talks of mental health boost
