There's something faintly medieval about the menu
The Camberwell Riviera has surely reached its final form. The gastronomical possibilities on the lively Church Street strip are now nigh-on endless; there's the holy meat juice bread at FM Mangal, posh pub fare at the Camberwell Arms, burly bargain wraps at Falafel & Shawarma, lamb skewers at Silk Road, panuozzo and pizza at Theo's, Kurdish soul food at Nandine, superlative sarnies at Cafe Mondo, and cult croissants at Toad, as well as Vietnamese, Nigerian and Greek spots. Is there even room for another restaurant? Hello JoJo seems to think so. Though the concept doesn't bark originality (Hello JoJo is planning to open as a bakery by day, while in the evening it serves seasonal plates both small and large), when we visit on a Friday, the place is rammed. The people of Camberwell truly love to eat! Their name might sound like a brand that makes hemp dungarees for toddlers (and the red and blue colour scheme does give off some serious preschool energy) but the Hello JoJo crowd are pleasantly pitched in the mate date and actual date hinterlands. Everyone blethers raucously and the front door is propped open so you can enjoy the tender chugging sound of the 171 bus. Such heady conviviality is helped no-end by £6 glasses of house wine. A warm, mini loaf of brown bread comes to the table alongside a requisite pickle plate, and a serving of cool, deftly whipped goat's curd topped with a pool of luminous celery splodge and crunchy buckwheat bullets, as if tzatziki was actually invented in a Kentish beer garden. Better still is a bunny chow doughnut, Hello JoJo's confectionary-adjacent take on the savory South African street food, a pert pastry stuffed with aromatic curried aubergine that splurges its sloppy innards over our vintage crockery like a particularly gruesome Cronenberg scene. There's something faintly medieval about the food here, with the feudalism and foraging-worthy likes of borage, loveage and ramsons dotted across the menu, as well as something called 'pyghtle'. It sounds like it should be an ancient hallucinogen but is, in fact, cheese, and comes finely shaved and dusted onto a muscular lamb-and-nettle croquette. Like lots at Hello JoJo, this is hearty food that wears its heft lightly. Fried potato and smoked cheese dumplings in a buttermilk sauce are similarly butch yet fluttery, tasting simultaneously like a midnight Maccy Ds and a dainty weekend in Provence. A platter of creamy, flawlessly flakey hake comes with a swirl of coastal greens and a cider beurre blanc so brilliantly buttery that it might as well have you licking a slab of Kerrygold. In a few dishes, Hello JoJo has more than earned its place on the foodie freeway that is Camberwell Church Street. Welcome to the neighborhood. The vibe An energetic dining room for a cool Camberwell crowd that never lets you forget there's an art school down the road. The food Creative takes on classic dishes made with foraged and unique British produce. The drink Very drinkable glasses of house wine for £6 alongside local beers and zingy shrubs for the non-boozers.

'Magical' UK beach with golden sands and hidden sea caves that appear at times
The UK is home to some stunning beaches, and one stretch of sand has been described as being like something out of a "fairy tale" with its golden sands and hidden sea caves The UK coast boasts an array of stunning beaches, from the wild cliffs of Cornwall to the unspoiled sands on the Lleyn Peninsula, mirroring Mediterranean shores, to the picturesque West Sands Beach in St Andrews, Scotland. Whether you're after a tranquil retreat or keen for a spot of adventure, Britain's coastline offers a wealth of sites for seaside exploration. Still, one particular beach has been singled out as resembling something straight out of a "fairy tale". Highlighting Britain's most enchanting spots in a special series, travel expert @lotteboo3 took to TikTok to reveal a "magical" beach, a mere 90-minute drive from London, nestled along the Kentish coastline. This coast, also boasting seaside towns likened to Spain's sunny Costa del Sol, harbours a secluded gem celebrated for its "dramatic chalk stacks, golden sands and hidden sea caves." Lotte gleefully showcased Botany Bay in her TikTok footage, dubbing it "one of the UK's most photogenic beaches". Cradled between Broadstairs and Margate, Botany Bay serves as the northern tip of seven bays in Broadstairs. Yet there lies a spellbinding secret with these sea caves, which only emerge at low tide, beckoning visitors to time their visits perfectly to witness this concealed spectacle, so checking tidal schedules is crucial when planning a journey to Botany Bay, reports the Express. Furthermore, this "magical" coastline forms part of the Viking Coastal Trail, tracing the rugged Isle of Thanet in Kent, and featuring the dramatic chalk cliffs that Botany Bay is renowned for. The majestic free-standing chalk stacks that "tower like castles" have emerged on the beach due to the erosion of the cliffs, creating a perfect environment for exploration with numerous rock pools scattered along the shore. At low tide, caves concealed within the chalk cliffs become accessible, many of which were carved out by pirates and smugglers over 300 years ago. Having been awarded Blue Flag status in 2023, it's also a favoured spot for swimming and surfing, not to mention its golden sands were showcased in the BBC mini-series D-Day: The Last Heroes. During the peak season from May to September, lifeguards are stationed daily, and visitors can enjoy various cafes, restaurants, and the Captain Digby pub, which boasts an outdoor dining area with sea views. Botany Bay is accessible via a scenic 45-minute coastal walk from Margate or Broadstairs, or a quick taxi ride from any nearby Thanet town in Kent. For those driving, Lotte mentioned there's limited parking at the Botany Bay Hotel car park, which "fills up fast on sunny days". Alternatively, parking is available at Kingsgate Bay or Joss Bay, both around a 20-minute stroll from the beach.

Edenbridge the stunning Kent town just an hour from London
Edenbridge is described as a traditional Kentish location that is set in the surrounding Eden Valley. From London, you can reach Edenbridge in as little as 38 minutes, catching the train from London Bridge and heading to Edenbridge Town station. You can also drive to the town, taking around one hour and 47 minutes with tolls along the route. Why you should visit the Kent town of Edenbridge Whether you just fancy a break from London and want an easy weekend, or fancy a weekend of long walks, Edenbridge is the perfect place. If you're a keen walker, Edenbridge offers plenty of great walking trails, including a route that takes you through the town. The town trail follows a straight line route that the Romans would follow on their route to London from Lewes. The century church records show that Edenbridge first appeared on records in the 12th century, according to Visit Edenbridge. Throughout its history, the market town has seen the likes of miners and smugglers and more recently, a rise in commuters, with it being just 25 miles from London. Despite being close to London, Edenbridge feels miles away, surrounded by countryside and high streets showing off its rich history. According to Visit Sevenoaks, the high street is filled with " timber-framed medieval buildings" that make it the "picture-perfect backdrop". The high street has shops, including antiques, gifts, plants and more, along with its market. Recommended Reading Edenbridge Market was first established in 1227 when it once sold cattle, but now it is a more general market held on Thursdays. There are also plenty of places to eat in the town, including The Old Eden, the local pub which has a Google Review rating of 4.3/5 and saw one guest share: "What a find, called in for dinner and had one of the best pies I've ever had, full of steak and kidney and the pastry was delicious." For places to stay in Edenbridge, the Ye Olde Crown is a well-rated hotel, and Hurst Farm is a popular bed and breakfast.

Third man, 34, arrested in Chelsea over ‘arson attack' on Keir Starmer's home
A THIRD man has been arrested in connection with a series of alleged arson attacks at homes linked to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The 34-year-old was arrested on Monday morning in the Chelsea area of London on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life. The second man, a 26-year-old, was arrested at 1.45pm on Saturday at London Luton Airport on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life. Advertisement He is currently still in police custody after a warrant of further detention was obtained at Westminster Magistrates' Court, the Metropolitan Police confirmed. 21-year-old Roman Lavrynovych was charged last week with three counts of arson with intent to endanger life and appeared in court on Friday.
