Man charged in deadly crash that killed Endicott police sergeant extradited to N.H.
The man accused in a deadly crash that killed an Endicott police sergeant was arrested and extradited to New Hampshire on Friday. According to New Hampshire State Police, officers obtained an extraditable arrest warrant in December and charged Keoma Duarte, 40 of New Bedford with two felony counts of reckless conduct and one misdemeanor count of disobeying an officer. Prosecutors say Keoma Duarte was so drunk the night before Thanksgiving that officers could smell the alcohol on him as they worked to free him from his crumpled Tesla on Interstate 95 near Newbury. Duarte's Tesla had slammed head-on into a car that Endicott College Police Sgt. Jeremy Cole was driving, killing the 49-year-old husband and father of four as he drove home from work. Duarte, 40, was arraigned on vehicular homicide and manslaughter charges from his hospital bed in December. He spoke only once, acknowledging he could hear the judge. On June 3rd, NH troopers traveled to Bristol County Jail and House of Correction in Massachusetts and took Duarte into custody. Duarte was then transported back to New Hampshire, where he was held at the Rockingham County Department of Corrections ahead of arraignment on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in Hampton District Court. Jeremy Cole was a police sergeant at Endicott College. News of his death shook the close-knit community of students and staff. The crash remains under investigation. This is a developing story. N.B. man arrested, extradited to N.H. for deadly crash
HAMPTON, N.H. (WPRI) — The New Hampshire Department of State Police said a New Bedford man, accused of driving the wrong way on I-95 and later involved in a deadly crash that killed an Endicott College police sergeant, was arrested and extradited to New Hampshire. Investigators say said they obtained an extraditable arrest warrant in December, charging 40-year-old Keoma Duarte, a New Bedford resident, with two felony counts of reckless conduct and one misdemeanor count of disobeying an officer. Officials in New Hampshire said Duarte allegedly drove his Tesla on the wrong side of the highway in Hampton, before crashing into officer Jeremy Cole's car early Thanksgiving morning in 2004. Cole later died of his injuries. Last week, the New Hampshire State Police learned Duarte was being held at the Bristol County Jail and House of Correction on the outstanding warrant. Mass. man arrested following deadly crash in November
HAMPTON, N.H. (WWLP) – A New Bedford man has been arrested in connection with driving in the wrong direction on I-95 in New Hampshire and causing a deadly crash in Massachusetts. New Hampshire State Police shared in a news release that 40-year-old Keoma Duarte of New Bedford, Mass. was arrested last Wednesday following an ongoing investigation into reckless driving and a deadly crash in November of 2024. Sidewalks to close Monday for repairs in Pittsfield On November 27, New Hampshire state troopers observed a Tesla driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-95 in Hampton. Troopers coordinated with members of the Massachusetts State Police as the suspect continued driving into Mass. It was later discovered that Duarte was involved in a two-vehicle crash. The crash resulted in the death of 49-year-old Jeremy Cole of Exeter, New Hampshire. Duarte was also injured during the accident and was brought to a Boston hospital to be treated for serious injuries. New Hampshire troopers investigating the incident determined that Duarte had initially been driving northbound on I-95 before pulling into the NH Liquor & Wine Outlet parking lot. The outlet was closed at the time, and Duarte was seen through surveillance leaving the lot and entering the road in the wrong direction. On May 28, Massachusetts State Police notified New Hampshire troopers that Duarte had been arrested due to his outstanding arrest warrant. On Tuesday, Duarte was brought to New Hampshire and held at the Rockingham County Department of Corrections. Duarte was charged with two felony counts of reckless conduct and one misdemeanor count of disobeying an officer. He was arraigned in Hampton District Court on Wednesday. Suspect in wrong-way crash that killed Endicott College sergeant extradited to NH
The suspect in a wrong-way crash that killed an Endicott College police sergeant on Thanksgiving morning has been extradited to New Hampshire, according to New Hampshire State Police. Keoma Duarte, 40, of New Bedford, was brought from Bristol County Jail and House of Correction in Dartmouth to Rockingham County Department of Corrections in New Hampshire on Tuesday. He was arraigned in Hampton District Court on Wednesday on two felony counts of reckless conduct and one misdemeanor count of disobeying an officer. According to New Hampshire State Police, Duarte was driving north in a Tesla on Interstate 95 in Hampton on the night of Nov. 27 and entered the parking lot of the New Hampshire Liquor and Wine Outlet on the same side of the highway, which was closed. He drove through the parking lot before getting back onto the highway going the wrong direction at about 11:45 p.m. Less than one minute later, New Hampshire state troopers saw the Tesla headed south on the north side of the road. New Hampshire police tried to stop the driver, followed by members of Massachusetts State Police after he crossed the border between the two states. In Newbury, the car struck another vehicle head-on, killing the driver, Jeremy Cole, 49, of Exeter, New Hampshire. Cole was a sergeant with the Endicott College Police Department in Beverly, Massachusetts and was on his way home from work at the time. Duarte was also injured in the crash and was brought to the hospital for treatment. Medical records showed his blood alcohol level at 0.19%, MassLive previously reported. The legal limit in Massachusetts is 0.08%. Police also found marijuana in the car and a burnt smell of marijuana. In Massachusetts, Duarte was charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of liquor, operating recklessly, manslaughter, and motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, in addition to civil motor vehicle infractions for driving in the wrong direction on a state highway, speeding and marked lane violations.
