Habitual offender moved into preventive detention

Kochi: A habitual offender was moved to preventive detention under Kerala Anti-social Activities (Prevention) Act (Kaapa). The action was initiated against Sreeraj, 28, of Mulavukad. He was moved to preventive detention by the order of the district collector. Police said he was an accused in 13 cases across various stations in the district, including assault, Pocso and crimes against women. Due to his continuous involvement in criminal activities and persistent disruption of public peace, the district collector issued a preventive detention order based on a report from the deputy commissioner of police, Kochi city. The accused was previously exiled from the city under Kaapa. He was recently arrested by Mulavukad police for violating the order. KAAPA invoked against accused in Chendamangalam triple murder case

The Ernakulam Rural police invoked the Kerala Anti-social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) against Rithu Jayan, 27, the accused in the Chendamangalam triple murder case. He was sent to the Viyyur Central Jail. District Collector N.S.K. Umesh issued the order based on a report submitted by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) M. Hemalatha. Apart from the murder of three of the same family, he was accused in other cases as well. The triple murder took place on January 16, 2025. Venu, his wife Usha, and daughter Vineesha were allegedly killed while Vineesha's husband Jithin was seriously injured in the alleged assault. The Vadakkekara police had registered a case.
