Youth arrested for stabbing insurance agent, son near Pollachi
The police on Wednesday arrested a youth on charges of stabbing an insurance agent and his son, leaving them severely injured, at Kottur near Pollachi on Tuesday.
M. Shajahan, 25, a resident of Pollachi, was arrested for stabbing N. Sivadasan, 64, of Rangasamuthiram near Tholilpettai and his son S. Ravishankar aged 23.
The police said Mr. Sivadasan worked as an insurance agent, after retiring from the Kerala State Forest Department. He was residing with wife Yamuna Rani, 57, a government school teacher, and his son.
Investigations by the police revealed that Shajahan came to Mr. Sivadasan's house for painting work some days ago. Mr. Sivadasan allegedly compelled Shajahan to buy insurance policies for his family. Following continuous persuasion, Shajahan visited Mr. Sivadasan at his residence on Tuesday evening and asked for an insurance policy for his wife, who is a Sri Lankan Tamil.
However, according to the police, Mr. Sivadasan refused to initiate an insurance policy for the woman, citing various reasons. This led to a heated argument between Shajahan and Mr. Sivadasan. An irate Shajahan took a pair of scissors from the house and stabbed Mr. Sivadasan in the head 15 times. Shajahan also stabbed Mr. Sivadasan's son thrice in his jaw, when he attempted to protect his father, said the police.
The injured father and son were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital, Pollachi, from where they were shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore. The Kottur police arrested Shajahan, who escaped after the crime. He was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
