KTMB postpones signal upgrade works to support smooth Asean Summit transit
KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has announced the postponement of its planned signal system upgrading work along the rail stretch between Kepong and Salak Selatan stations, originally scheduled to begin tomorrow. In a statement issued today, KTMB said the work will be rescheduled to a later date, which will be announced in due course. It also confirmed that during the deferment period, all KTM Komuter and Electric Train Service (ETS) operations will continue as usual, with no changes to train schedules. "The decision to postpone the upgrade was made to ensure seamless travel for commuters in the Klang Valley during the 46th Asean Summit and related meetings currently taking place in the capital," the statement read. Meanwhile, KTMB Group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin was quoted as saying in the statement that KTMB is committed to maintaining smooth rail operations, particularly during major national and international events, such as the AseanSummit. "This postponement takes into account the closure of several main roads in the Klang Valley and aligns with the government's call for the public to use public transport to ease traffic congestion. "The move is also part of KTMB's contribution to the nation's efforts to ensure the successful hosting of the Asean Summit," he added. KTMB apologised for any inconvenience caused and encouraged the public to stay informed by visiting its official website at or following its social media channels for the latest updates. – Bernama

Trailer carrying empty cooking gas cylinders crashes into railway bridge
KUALA KRAI: A trailer carrying 950 empty cooking gas cylinders crashed into the metal barrier of a railway bridge on Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra here on Sunday. The incident occurred at 3.21pm when the 4.3-metre-tall trailer attempted to pass under a structure with a maximum clearance of 4.1 metres, Buletin Utama reported. District police chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat said the heavy vehicle was travelling from Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Baru, to Seremban and was heading towards the town centre when it struck the bridge barrier. "As a result of the collision, several gas cylinders were thrown onto the road, and one bounced towards a car on the opposite lane. "No injuries were reported," he said in a statement. He said the trailer driver was issued a summons under Rule 10 LN 166/59 for failing to control the vehicle. "If found guilty, the driver may face a fine of not less than RM2,000 or imprisonment not exceeding six months," he said. He also urged Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) to take immediate action regarding the barrier, noting that this was the second incident at the same location.

Pasir Gudang - Kempas Baru cargo rail line to include passenger services, says Loke
JOHOR BARU: The cargo-only Pasir Gudang–Kempas Baru railway line will soon be upgraded to accommodate passenger services, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He said the new service is expected to be available to the public within six to 12 months. "Previously, this track was only used for cargo, but we have discussed with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) about introducing passenger services as well. "This is a high-population area with the potential to attract many passengers. "As a start, we plan to use KTMB's existing rolling stock to provide the service," he told a press conference here on Friday (May 9). Loke was speaking after the reopening ceremony of the Pasir Gudang–Kempas Baru track at the Pasir Gudang KTMB station. He added that the ministry is identifying suitable locations along the 40km stretch to build passenger stations. "Currently, there are no stations along this line. "So, we are looking at setting up simple but functional stops to allow passengers to board and alight safely. "These will not be fancy stations, but they must be safe and practical for passengers," he said. Earlier, Loke launched the reopening of the railway line, which had been closed for six months for upgrading works. He said that the RM55mil project was initially expected to take 24 months to complete. "However, by making the difficult decision to temporarily halt operations for six months, we were able to accelerate the project. "This allowed us to complete the upgrades earlier, tripling the line's cargo capacity and easing congestion in the area," he said. More To Come
