11-year-old in St. George raises money for aunt after being bullied at his lemonade stand
SANTA CLARA, Utah () — An 11-year-old who was bullied for setting up a lemonade stand is now raising money for his aunt's IVF treatment after the community rallied around him.
In an interview with ABC4, Cason Wright said that he began running a lemonade stand last summer because he was bored, and then it became something he did regularly to earn some extra money.
Cason's mom Keri Wright said about her son, 'If he wants something, he goes out, he sets up his stand, and he works for it, and we are trying to teach him what a business is.'
At the end of April, Cason was selling sodas with a friend when a group of teenagers came by and threw a soda at Cason from a truck.
'I was shocked, 'cause it just randomly happened, and after that… I don't think I got any customers after that,' Cason said.
Keri explained how she reacted after she learned about it: 'The mama bear in you comes out.'
Keri posted the story on Facebook group St. George Word of Mouth, and people immediately began to show their support. They even began to ask for Cason's Venmo so they could send him money.
'When they started venmoing me, I replied to every single one 'thank you',' Cason said.

He made enough money to buy the electric scooter he was saving up for, and after he learned that his aunt was going to have fertility treatments, he told his mom he wanted to pay it forward.
Cason will be having a bake sale Saturday May 17 to raise money for his aunt's IVF treatments. He will be selling a variety of sodas, cookies, breads, and trail mix. It will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it will be set up at the same location where the teenagers threw the soda at Cason.
After all the support from the community, Cason said he felt like 'there's more good people in this world than bad people, which is good.'
Keri told ABC4 that she never intended this to happen when she made the Facebook post, but it has given her a renewed appreciation for her community. 'It makes me love where I live even more,' she said.
