Man arrested after alleged murder in east Bakersfield: police

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A homicide investigation began Monday morning after Bakersfield police found a dead person inside an apartment on South Williams Street. Jason Garibay, 30, was arrested under suspicion of murder, torture and cruelty to a dependent adult likely causing great bodily injury or death, according to the Bakersfield Police Department. Golden Empire Most Wanted: May 30, 2025 At about 5:13 a.m., police were dispatched to the 400 block of South Williams Street and located a dead person inside an apartment. Detectives determined the incident to be a homicide after investigating and later arrested Garibay. The identity of the victim will be released by the Kern County Coroner's Office. BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Gridley man who died a day after wrecking into a fence on Highway 99 has been identified by the Kern County Coroner's Office. Nicacio Rodriguez Soria, 64, was pronounced dead April 25 after crashing a day earlier in Chico, officials said. The crash occurred on Highway 99, south of Hamilton Nord Cana Highway. Senaida Irene Angel, 44, of Bakersfield, was driving a Buick Roadmaster at around 2:50 a.m. on Hosking Avenue and Hughes Lane when she made a left turn against a red light in front of another car. Bryant Kenneth Chavez, 22, of Shafter, was driving a motorcycle on Highway 43, south of Burbank Street in Shafter at 3:45 a.m. May 19, officials said. BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Coroner's Office has identified the five victims killed in the fire on Claymine Road on April 10. Miya Ramona Howard, 27; Miyah Andrea Ventura, 1; Richard Tomas Ventura Jr., 2; Emily Rose Ventura, 6; and Monica Sage Ventura, 6, all of Edwards have been identified by the coroner's office. The fire was reported in the 18000 block of Claymine Road at about 12:12 a.m. on April 10, according to officials. At the time of the fire, Kern County firefighters and firefighters from Edwards Air Force Base were dispatched to the scene. According to officals, Howard and the four children were pronounced dead at the scene. One adult and three minors were able to escape the fire uninjured, according to the fire department.
