Green Day reveals how they celebrated Hollywood Walk of Fame star, tease next project for fans

These days, it is strictly the boulevard of dreams. 38 years after Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool formed their iconic rock band Green Day, the trio was honored with a high recognition for their dedication and signature sound: a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Of course, in Green Day fashion, the musicians celebrated this prestigious honor with good food and friends. 'I had a lot of things that tasted like Slurpees,' bassist and vocalist Dirnt, 52, exclusively teased to The Post while promoting their new Kerplunk Kandy Grape Slurpee drink for 7-Eleven at the Kerplunk Kandy Speakeasy pop-up in Hollywood on Friday. 'Mariachi!' drummer Cool, 52, chimed in. Advertisement 'Yeah, a mariachi band,' the lead vocalist and guitarist Armstrong, 53, echoed. 'We went to El Compadre yesterday, those guys are friends of ours. It was pretty nice.' 7 Tré Cool, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Mike Dirnt at the 7-Eleven speakeasy pop-up. Getty Images 7-Eleven, Inc. The good times didn't stop there as Cool shared, 'I went to a basketball game.' But when they came around, all teasing aside, Armstrong, Dirnt, and Cool couldn't be more thankful for their star. Advertisement 'Hollywood's literally been a second home to us since we started making big records with Rob Cavallo,' Dirnt expressed. 'Outside of the work and glitz and glamour, I think everybody can tell that Hollywood has a big heart too. As soon as something happens people always step up. You can see it with the fires, you can see it with a lot of different things. It's nice to get our hat tipped like that.' 7 Green Day chats with Alexandra Bellusci at the launch of their Kerplunk Kandy Grape Slurpee. The magic that ensued didn't disappoint as Green Day went on to win five Grammys, with 19 total nominations. By 2015, the band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In honor of the legendary record, Armstrong, Cool and Dirnt created a Slurpee with the convenience store chain. 7 Tré Cool, Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt of Green Day pose with their star during their Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Ceremony on May 01, 2025 in Hollywood. I think it was like a 1200 dollar budget and we smuggled our records over to Europe and we toured there for the first time.' He added, 'It a record that's been around for a long time and we still play songs off it.' 'I think that record is really where we decided to solidify our identity as Billie, Mike and Tré,' explained Dirnt. 'And really get to know our sound.' 7 Green Day receives their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. 'We always play it.' 'They all hold a special spot,' Dirnt added. 'We'll break out songs from that record like 'Christie Road' or 'Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?' Like Billie said, 'One of My Lies.' It's a treat for us to go back and play them too.' And while a blast from the past will always hold a special place in their hearts – and in their Slurpees – the future is just as bright for Green Day. Hot off headlining Coachella for the first time last month, fans can expect many more performances and new music from their favorite American rock band. We're playing Ohana [Festival],' listed Armstrong. 'We're going to go the South America. And then we're going to finish out the year and then we'll see what happens after that.' As the super star put it, 'We're always working on new music.' Kerplunk Kandy Grape Slurpee is now available at 7-Eleven for a limited time only. Fans in Los Angeles can attend the speakeasy pop-up on Saturday May 3 and Sunday May 4 in Hollywood.

The five-time Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees released their breakout album Dookie in 1994, which sold over 10 million and achieved 10x Platinum Diamond status, is widely credited with popularizing and reviving mainstream interest in punk rock, catapulting a career-long run of #1 hit singles. Entertainment Weekly calls Green Day, 'The most influential band of their generation,' while Rolling Stone attests, 'Green Day have inspired more young bands to start than any act this side of Kiss, and that doesn't seem to be changing.' In 2004, Green Day released the rock opera American Idiot which captured the nation's attention, selling more than 8 million copies in the U.S. alone and taking home the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. Mojo declared 'It's exhilarating stuff, the kind of record that sets new parameters as to what is possible from a punk rock'n'roll band in the 21st century.' In 2010, a stage adaptation of American Idiot debuted on Broadway to critical and commercial acclaim. Released in 2020, Green Day's thirteenth studio album Father Of All... debuted at #1 on Billboard's Album Sales Chart and #1 in both the U.K. and Australia. Pitchfork declared, 'Green Day's most fetching and youthful songs in ages. The trio sounds reinvigorated, more like hungry newcomers staking their claim.' In July 2021, Green Day embarked on The Hella Mega Tour (w/ Fall Out Boy & Weezer). The global tour included 29 sold-out stadium gigs – including renowned venues like London Stadium and Los Angeles' Dodger Stadium. On January 19, '24, the band released their highly anticipated 14th studio album, Saviors, which includes hit singles, 'The American Dream Is Killing Me,' which reached #1 on Billboard Rock & Alternative Airplay, and 'Dilemma.' The album debuted at #1 on seven different Billboard charts and marked their fifth #1 in the UK. Saviors received widespread critical praise, with Rolling Stone describing it as 'huge songs and snotty satire for a world on fire,' while The New York Times hailed it as 'a decisive, even overdetermined return to form.' The New Yorker summed it up best with 'It's Green Day's world now.' In 2024, Green Day embarked on a sold-out global stadium tour – The Saviors Tour – where they played Dookie and American Idiot in their entirety, along with other Saviors cuts and fan favorites. The Saviors Tour came to a triumphant close as it serves as Green Day's biggest tour of their illustrious 30+ year career. Last but not least, the band just performed to over 200,000 people at this year's Coachella, headlining both Saturday nights. CONTACT: 7-Eleven, Inc.
