After Kesari 2, R Madhavan joins Karan Johar for a mature love story that breaks stereotypes: 'I cringe pretending to be younger'

After delivering a powerful performance in Kesari Chapter 2 : The Untold Story Of Jallianwala Bagh, R Madhavan is all set to return to the silver screen in Karan Johar 's upcoming romantic drama Aap Jaisa Koi. The film marks his second collaboration with the celebrated filmmaker and has already stirred excitement with its teaser—particularly because it brings Madhavan back to a genre he hasn't explored in a while: film, which also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh , revolves around an unconventional love story between a Sanskrit professor and a French professor. What makes it even more intriguing is its fresh take on age-appropriate love—an element that Madhavan believes is central to the film's an interview with News18, the Rocketry actor opened up about why he chose to be part of the project. Madhavan shared that Aap Jaisa Koi stood out to him because of its honest approach to casting based on age. He explained that he plays a 48-year-old man who finds himself in a relationship with a 28-year-old woman. The film, he said, delves into whether such a relationship is viable or justifiable, and that complexity is what drew him admitted he's reached a point in his career where pretending to be younger on screen no longer feels comfortable. In fact, he said the idea of romancing someone decades younger while pretending to be the same age makes him 'cringe.' What convinced him to take up this role was the fact that the character embraces his real age. He stressed that he didn't want to make the story unbelievable or uncomfortable—not for the audience and not for the recent example of Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, where Ajay Devgn and Tabu were praised for their mature and realistic romantic pairing, Madhavan pointed out how age-appropriate storytelling is finally getting its also observed how even Hollywood has become increasingly conscious about casting choices when it comes to age gaps in romantic roles. According to him, audiences no longer accept a 50-year-old man behaving like a teenager, and neither should actors attempt to pull off such roles. Madhavan joked about how ridiculous it would be for him to play a college student at 54, exclaiming in disbelief, 'Are you kidding me?'He looked back on his experience filming 3 Idiots, where he was 40 and playing a college student. He confessed it made him extremely nervous, wondering if the audience would buy into it at all. But a surprising moment of relief came during the shoot itself—Madhavan recalled how he and his co-stars Aamir Khan and Sharman Joshi looked younger than some of the actual college students on set. He laughed as he remembered questioning whether the greying, balding guys around them were professors or students, only to be reassured that they were, indeed, students. That surprising visual, he said, gave the trio a strange boost of Madhavan is shooting for De De Pyaar De 2 , in which he plays Rakul Preet Singh's father—another move that signals his comfort in owning his age on screen. And if Aap Jaisa Koi is any indication, he's doing it with both charm and authenticity.

Exclusive: Emraan Hashmi revisits India's most crucial counter-terror attack

Actor Emraan Hashmi, who was in the national capital ahead of the release of 'Ground Zero', offered some insight into the film which based on one of the most significant anti-terror operations in India's recent history. In an exclusive conversation with India Today, which took place before the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, Hashmi sheds light on the emotional and operational complexities faced by BSF officers, particularly during the early 2000s - a period when Kashmir was one of the most volatile conflict zones in the who plays BSF Commandant Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, revisits a critical chapter in India's war on terror - the multi-year mission that led to the elimination of Jaish-e-Mohammed's top commander, Ghazi Baba, who was responsible for orchestrating the 2001 Indian Parliament attack and the 2002 Akshardham Temple attack. These have been touted as some of the deadliest terrorist strikes on Indian soil.''The film is set between 2000 and 2003, arguably one of the most turbulent periods in Kashmir's history. Jaish-e-Mohammed had just been formed after the IC814 hijacking. What followed was unprecedented - the Parliament attack in 2001, which marked the first time in history a terrorist group had targeted a national parliament,'' Hashmi said. He also recalled how these events turned Kashmir into a war zone, with red alerts sounded across the security establishment. ''There was a fear psychosis. Young men brainwashed by Jaish were killing our forces at point-blank range. In one particular incident, 70 soldiers from the BSF, CRPF, JK Police and Army lost their lives. The emotional toll on the officers was unimaginable," he the centre of this real-life operation was Dubey, who led a covert two-year mission to track down and eliminate Ghazi Baba- a master of disguise and guerrilla tactics, who constantly eluded capture by blending in among civilians in the operation 'the most definitive and crucial mission of the BSF in the last 50 years', Hashmi emphasised how this event fundamentally altered India's internal security landscape. 'This single operation crippled Jaish-e-Mohammed for over a decade. It was a mission that had to be told,'' he encounter finally took place on August 30, 2003, a day that became the 'Ground Zero' moment for the story. According to Hashmi, the gravity of the mission and the sheer resilience of Dubey and his team made the character one of the most emotionally demanding roles he has ever portrayed. 'Ground Zero', also starring Sai Tamhankar, opened in theatres on April 25, It has been facing steep competition from major titles like 'Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story Of Jallianwala Bagh', 'Jaat', and 'Phule'. Despite the rave reviews, with Hashmi giving one of the best performances of his lifetime, the film is struggling to mint money at the box office.

Jaat Box Office Collection Day 15: Sunny Deol's Film Earns Rs 1.25 Crore

Jaat features Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda in pivotal roles. It is directed by Gopichand Malineni. Sunny Deol's actioner Jaat kicked off with a bang at the domestic box office, earning Rs 9.5 crore on Day 1 and leaving audiences amazed by the power-packed performances of the cast and gritty action sequences. Directed by Gopichand Malineni, the film had fans flooding the theatres since its release on April 10. But following a smashing first week, Jaat seems to have lost the initial momentum. On Day 15, i.e., Thursday, April 24, the action-packed entertainer managed to earn only Rs 1.25 crore, as per early estimates by Sacnilk. The figures are slightly lower than Jaat's Day 14 collection, which was Rs 1.35 crore. With this, Sunny Deol's actioner has earned a total of Rs 80.75 crore net at the domestic box office and a whopping Rs 107 crore worldwide, making it his second-highest grossing film. Jaat trails only Gadar 2, Sunny Deol's 2023 blockbuster movie co-starring Ameesha Patel. It is worth noting that the Gopichand Malineni-directed film saw a Hindi occupancy rate of 7.9 per cent on Thursday. The reason behind Jaat's slowing collection is due to fierce competition from Akshay Kumar's recently released period drama, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story Of Jallianwala Bagh. On Thursday, the period drama earned Rs 3.45 crore, bringing its net domestic collection to Rs 46.05 crore and its worldwide total to Rs 70.7 crore. Sunny Deol's film found itself in the middle of the box office battlefield in its second week upon the release of Akshay Kumar's film on April 18. Despite the clash, the film has still managed to rake in money. If Jaat continues to maintain a stronghold of the box office numbers, it might soon enter the Rs 100-crore club in India. Jaat is an action-packed thriller directed by Gopichand Malineni—marking his big Bollywood debut. He co-wrote the film with Saurabh Gupta. The film, produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, stars Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda in the lead. The supporting cast includes Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, Vineet Kumar Singh, Prashant Bajaj, Zarina Wahab, P. Ravi Shankar, and Babloo Prithiveeraj. The story revolves around Baldev Pratap Singh (Sunny Deol), who uncovers crimes in a fictional town plagued by brutality and injustice. He clashes with Ranatunga (Randeep Hooda) and restores justice with the help of authorities. First Published:

‘Kesari Chapter 2' Ranks Among Global Top-Scoring Films

Indian stars R Madhavan and Akshay Kumar in a still from the Hindi film 'Kesari Chapter 2'. Indian star Akshay Kumar's latest outing Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story Of Jallianwala Bagh made an opening collection of $5.8 million worldwide. The film, based on a book, made it to the top grossing films for the weekend on Comscore's latest list. Kesari Chapter 2 made $4.2 million in India in its first three days at the box office. Kesari Chapter 2 is a captivating film that has engrossed critics and fans alike. The film saw an impressive box office run over the first weekend at the ticket windows. Directed by debutant Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari Chapter 2 is based on the book The Case That Shook The Empire. Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat wrote the book. The film features Akshay Kumar alongside R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in important roles. Amit Sial, Regina Cassandra, Mark Bennington, Simon Paisley Day, and Alexx O'Nell also play pivotal roles in the film. Kumar's new film made an opening collection of $1.5 million worldwide. Kesari Chapter 2 is now the fourth highest-opening Hindi film of 2025. The third one on the IMDb's list is Kumar's Sky Force which is preceded by Chhaava and Sikandar. After making a humble opening, Kesari Chapter 2 saw as significant rise at the box office on Saturday. It scored $2.5 million in India and $3.6 million worldwide by the end of two days at the ticket windows. The Sunday collection for Kesari Chapter 2 rose significantly. The film made a global gross collection of $5.8 million and ranked at the ninth spot on Comscore's list of highest-grossing films worldwide for the weekend ending April 20. Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story Of Jallianwala Bagh is about the real story of Indian lawyer Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair. He served as the Advocate-General of Madras and was a member of the Viceroy's Executive Council in early 1900s. He was also the elected president of Indian National Congress in the late 1890s. Kumar's film focuses on Nair's fight against the British Crown, a case that resulted in the world recognizing the horrors of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre (1919). Tyagi smoothly combines warm emotions and the brilliance of Nair's personality that results in an engaging movie. The three lead actors - Madhavan, Kumar and Panday - display exceptional acting prowess that makes the audience ebb and flow with the story as and when it gets emotional, sad, angry or motivational. A major feat that the director manages to achieve is that theatrics suitable for Kumar's stardom and fanbase do not seem too exaggerated even in this realistic movie because of the points at which we see them in the narrative. Tyagi also manages to highlight issues that remain relevant even decades after the case - issues such as misuse of legalities to crush dissent and the suppression of the media speak to today's global realities. Kesari Chapter 2 omits quite a few important aspects of Nair's life, but whatever it chooses to pick and show, the film treats it with utmost cinematic brilliance and sensitivity. The film gets a little loud for its own tone towards the end, but Kumar and Madhavan manage to maintain the engrossing grip on the audience with their brilliant performances.
