Chicopee memorial ceremony honors veterans with wreath laying
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – In Chicopee, the city gathered to pay their respects at the Veterans Memorial Plaza.
Part of the ceremony included wreaths being placed at each of the six monuments by a veteran and a current service member.
Honoring those who gave their lives for their country in the Civil War, World War 1 and 2, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the war on terror. 'It means a lot to me personally because Kevin DuPont was one of my sergeants, and I know a lot of these people from around that over the years,' says Judge Advocate Louis Brault. 'I have gotten to know and have been very lucky to know, and Chicopee is a patriotic city.'
He said volunteers from across the city came together to place the memorial flags, showing their respect for those who gave their lives but also showing their support for the city's veterans.
The ceremony ended with a 21-gun salute and taps on the bugle.
