Heidenheim 'keeper Kevin Muller suffers concussion after collision
Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Muller is stretchered off the pitch during the German Bundesliga soccer match against VfL Bochum, in Heidenheim on May 2, 2025. PHOTO: EPA-EFE Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Muller has suffered a concussion, the Bundesliga club said on May 3, after the 34-year-old lost consciousness and was taken to hospital following a collision during their home game against VfL Bochum. Muller, who joined Heidenheim in 2015 and has started every league game for the relegation-threatened club this season, collided with Bochum's Ibrahima Sissoko in the 50th minute of the goal-less draw on May 2. "It is not clear how long Kevin Muller will be out for," Heidenheim said in a statement. Heidenheim, who earned promotion to the Bundesliga in 2023, are 16th with two matches left and risk going into the relegation play-offs as they sit four points below 15th-placed Hoffenheim, who have played a game fewer. Pair facing Bundesliga relegation after scoreless draw
Bochum and Heidenheim are both staring relegation in the face after the struggling teams fought out a scoreless draw in a tense Bundesliga encounter. A defeat on Friday (Saturday AEST) would have condemned bottom club Bochum to the drop in Germany, but a point means they survive at least one more week. The Ruhr side remained last in the Bundesliga standings, equal on points with Kiel. The result was equally frustrating for Heidenheim, who remained third from bottom, four points above Bochum and Kiel, but four behind Hoffenheim, who have a game in hand. Heidenheim lost goalkeeper Kevin Muller to injury in the 50th minute, when he was taken off on a stretcher after a goalmouth clash with Ibrahima Sissoko.
