Müller had received lengthy treatment on the field while being shielded from view before he was taken off on a stretcher. Advertisement Hofmann broke a rib causing a collapsed lung after a collision with Heidenheim's Marvin Pieringer. Bochum said the injury was 'quite life-threatening.' 'Hofmann owes it to the careful first aid and immediate examinations and treatments at the local hospital that nothing more serious happened,' the club said on its website, adding that the player's lung function was only restored after a minor operation to drain his chest. Hofmann will miss Bochum's remaining two games of the season, while it was uncertain when Müller could return for Heidenheim. The teams' 1-1 draw left Bochum bottom of the Bundesliga with only slim hopes of avoiding the drop, while Heidenheim was four points above Bochum in the relegation playoff place. ___ AP soccer:

Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Muller treated in hospital after head injury

Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Muller was taken to hospital after sustaining what appeared to be a serious head injury during his side's 0-0 Bundesliga draw with Bochum. Muller collided with Bochum midfielder Ibrahima Sissoko while punching the ball clear early in the second half. Muller appeared to be knocked unconscious in the incident. Advertisement The 34-year-old was put in the recovery position by his team-mate Tim Siersleben and the match was stopped for 11 minutes. Privacy screens were set up in front of the supporters and broadcaster DAZN's cameras cut away while Muller was treated. He was taken to hospital while on the field he was replaced by back-up goalkeeper Frank Feller. A club statement on Saturday read: 'FCH goalkeeper Kevin Müller suffered a concussion in the Bundesliga home game against VfL Bochum. This was revealed by examinations late Friday evening at the Heidenheim Hospital.' It remains uncertain how long Muller will be sidelined for, the club added. 'FC Heidenheim 1846 would like to take this opportunity to thank the medical staff yesterday in the Voith Arena as well as the employees of the Heidenheim Hospital for their care and treatment,' they added. 'The entire FCH family wishes Kevin Müller only the best and a good recovery!' 60': The whole stadium chants Kevin Müller's name as he is taken off the field, we are wishing him nothing but the best in recovery! 🙏💙 0-0 #meinVfL #FCHBOC — VfL Bochum 1848 (@VfLBochum1848EN) May 2, 2025 Heidenheim head coach Frank Schmidt confirmed after the game that Muller regained consciousness on the pitch and would remain in hospital overnight. 'He was out briefly, but then was back,' said Schmidt. 'Now we can only hope that everything will heal quickly, but I can't say more precisely.' Muller's team-mates expressed their support and concern for him after the game. 'These are moments that you just don't want to see on the football field,' said Heidenheim captain Patrick Mainka. 'This is something that overshadows everything. It's no longer about the first or second Bundesliga. Health is the most important thing for all of us. And you've seen that. (Bochum defender) Maxi Wittek started running immediately to help. You're not an opponent anymore (in that situation).' Muller joined Heidenheim in 2015 and has made 327 appearances for the club in all competitions, keeping 95 clean sheets. Bochum remain bottom of the Bundesliga table after the draw while Heidenheim are 16th and occupy the relegation play-off spot. ()

Bochum draw with Heidenheim leaves both still facing relegation

HEIDENHEIM, Germany (AP) — Bochum and Heidenheim are both staring relegation in the face after the struggling teams drew 0-0 in a tense Bundesliga encounter on Friday. A defeat would have condemned bottom club Bochum to the drop but a point means it survives at least one more week. The Ruhr side remained last in the Bundesliga, equal on points with Kiel. The result was equally frustrating for Heidenheim, which remained third from bottom, four points above Bochum and Kiel, but four behind Hoffenheim, which has a game in hand. Heidenheim lost goalkeeper Kevin Müller to injury in the 50th minute, when he was taken off on a stretcher after a goalmouth clash with Ibrahima Sissoko. ___
