Khairatabad railway level crossing continues to disrupt daily commutes
Hyderabad: The Khairatabad railway level crossing gate remains a persistent source of frustration for commuters, closing as many as 20 times a day and forcing motorists to wait between 15 to 30 minutes, regardless of weather conditions.
Local residents report that the frequent closures severely disrupt traffic flow, with vehicles often backed up on both sides of the tracks. The problem worsens during peak hours, as office-goers and school buses become trapped in long queues.
Concerns have also been raised about the impact on emergency services. Ambulances and fire engines reportedly struggle to navigate the congested lanes during gate closures.
Elderly residents living nearby have expressed anxiety about accessing urgent medical care during such periods.
Businesses along the tracks are also feeling the impact. Shop owners say customer footfall drops significantly during peak crossing times, and the congestion spills over to connecting roads. The issue is particularly acute during the monsoon season, when waterlogging exacerbates delays.
"Auto-rickshaw and cab drivers frequently refuse trips to this area, citing delays caused by the gate," said Ravi Kumar, a local resident. "
