Saudi Arabia to build Silica-Based Industrial Complex in Anbar

Iraq's Ministry of Industry and Minerals has announced the signing of a strategic agreement between Iraq's State Company for Glass and Refractories and Saudi-based Ajial Company to develop the largest integrated industrial complex in the region based on silica as a core raw material. The deal was signed under the patronage of Minister Prof. Eng. Khaled Battal Al-Najm. The complex, to be located in Anbar province, will support a wide range of future industrial projects, including the production of flat glass, bottles and jars, ceramic sanitary ware, ceramic wall and floor tiles, glass electrical insulators, sodium silicate, and other silica-based products. According to the Ministry, this initiative marks a major step forward in Iraq-Saudi industrial collaboration and is expected to deliver substantial economic benefits. The facility will utilise Iraq's abundant silica resources to boost industrial output, create job opportunities, and reinforce economic sustainability. Minister Al-Najm highlighted that the agreement aligns with the Ministry's vision to enhance Iraq's industrial capabilities and diversify income sources through the utilisation of local raw materials. Iraq Allocates First Industrial City Plots in Anbar, Dhi Qar

Khaled Battal Al-Najm, has chaired the first 2025 Board of Directors meeting for the Industrial Cities Authority, reviewing major industrial development plans. Key Developments: The Minister handed over the first batch of industrial city plot contracts in Anbar and Dhi Qar to investors following approval from the Ministerial Council for Economy on rental exemptions and fees. The meeting also discussed the development of Khazer Industrial City in Ninewa, assessing the economic feasibility of the project and its investment potential. The Minister directed a review based on current market conditions. The Ministerial Council for Economy's recent decision includes: Two-year rental exemption during project setup. Fixed rental rate of IQD 250,000 per month per 0.5-donum plot from year three to year five. Post-year-five rent adjustment capped at 5%. Iraq to Restart Nitrogen Fertiliser Production after 40 Yrs

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister emphasised the environmentally friendly nature of the plant, which will contribute to self-sufficiency in fertilisers and enhance agricultural output. He also highlighted the role of public-private partnerships in driving industrial growth, highlighting that an Iraqi company, supported by global firms, will lead the project. Iraq signs $2B+ deal with China for Basra industrial city
Shafaq News/ Iraq has signed two "important" investment contracts with the Chinese company Shang Shin to develop strategic industries, Minister of Industry Khaled Battal Al-Najm announced on Saturday. The first contract involves a sponge iron project with an annual capacity of one million tons, while the second focuses on establishing a multifunctional industrial city and heavy industries in Basra, Al-Najm said in a press conference. "Negotiations for these projects took a long time due to their importance and scale," he confirmed. The city, valued at over $2 billion, will be reportedly managed by an investing company under the Industrial Cities Law, with ownership remaining with a state-owned company. 'The legal procedures for this project faced complexities but were overcome with direct support from Prime Minister [Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani,]" he added. 'The ministry has overcome doubts about its ability to execute major industrial projects.' Earlier today, the Minister of Industry arrived in Basra to follow up on industrial projects. He laid the foundation stone for new factories, launched the pilot operation of the steel factory's furnace, and visited the iron pipe factory in Umm Qasr to monitor the execution of the Basra-Haditha oil pipeline.
