Oman wins silver, bronze in paragliding at Beach Games
Muscat – Oman's national paragliding team opened its campaign at the 3rd GCC Beach Games, which got underway at Al Hail Beach in Seeb on Saturday, with silver and bronze medals on the opening day.
The competition, which runs until April 11, have drawn 14 athletes from three countries – Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait – displaying strong performances.
Emirati athlete Abdullah al Hammadi taking the gold medal after scoring 2,350 points.
Omani pilot Khalil al Tobi secured the silver medal with 2,175 points, while teammate Abdulaziz al Dahli won bronze, finishing with 2,000 points.
Dr Ahmed Zahir al Alawi, Chairman of the Oman Air Sports Committee, said the team's preparations had been extensive. 'We were optimistic about the team's fighting spirit, which led to these remarkable results,' he said. 'The national team is well-prepared and ready to compete at the highest level.'
He added that all arrangements were in place to ensure a smooth competition.
Dr Abdul Munim bin Mohammed al Saadi, a member of the Oman Air Sports Committee, described the event as a milestone for the region.
'The paragliding championship, part of the GCC Beach Games in Muscat, is a first for the region,' he said. 'It serves as an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences, acquire new skills, and promote air sports.'
Saadi noted the strong public turnout and said the event helped highlight regional talent and boost the visibility of air sports across the Gulf.
