Today sees the beginning of Khamaseen winds in Egypt: Climate center warns
Sand Storm to hit the county - file CAIRO - 29 April 2025: Dr. Mohamed Ali Fahim, head of the Climate Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, stated on Tuesday that, as part of a review of climate forecast model updates at the Climate Change Information Center and forecasts from the Meteorological Authority, the weather fluctuations have been confirmed. Fahim added that starting Tuesday, a western Khamaseen low pressure wind will hit the country, coinciding with an upper rain trough over the western regions of the country (Salloum, Siwa, and Marsa Matrouh). This low pressure will bring high wind speeds and rain concentrated in the far west of the country, extending as the day progresses toward the rest of Marsa Matrouh, bringing moderate rain and high winds. Temperatures on Tuesday will be spring-like and warm. Fahim explained that the Khamaseen low pressure wind will extend inland as of Wednesday morning, with the most severe wind gusts reaching storm-level winds laden with sand and dust. Intermittent wind gusts will exceed 65-80 km/h in scattered areas of the country, with thunderstorms and snow on the north coast (most concentrated in Salloum and western Marsa Matrouh) and moderate winds in the northern Delta. There are also intermittent, strong winds laden with sand and dust, reaching 60-70 km/h in Cairo, Lower Egypt, northern Upper Egypt, and even Sohag in the south. Intermittent, strong winds laden with sand and dust, reaching 70-75 km/h in the Eastern Desert (east of Beni Suef and Minya, Saff, New Cairo, the Administrative Capital, Ismailia Desert Road, Suez Road, Sokhna Road, areas south of Sokhna, Suez, Ismailia, and most areas of Sinai, especially east of the Canal and central and southern Sinai).

Dust storms, unstable weather expected across Egypt on Tuesday: EMA
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) predicts moderately hot weather during the day across most parts of the country on Tuesday, growing extremely hot in southern Upper Egypt. The weather at night will be moderate to cold in the early morning. As the country is currently being affected by a low-pressure system, the EMA warned that the weather will fluctuate with active winds potentially causing dust storms in certain areas. Wind will likely be heightened due to the influence of a Khamaseen depression, causing strong winds that stir up sand and dust at speeds ranging between 40-60 km/h, with gusts that may reach 90 km/h in some areas. This would also reduce horizontal visibility to less than one km, particularly in desert and open areas. The authority also urged for caution while driving and wearing masks in areas exposed to dust, especially for those with respiratory allergies. Temperatures expected for Tuesday: Alexandria: 24C Cairo: 29C Hurghada: 31C Sharm El-Sheikh: 32C Luxor: 37C Aswan: 38C Edited translation from Al-Masry Al-Youm

EMA warns of dust as Khamaseen low pressure winds hit the country Wednesday
EMA warns of sand and dust as Khamaseen winds hit Egypt on Wednesday CAIRO - 28 April 2025: The weather forecast map issued by the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) indicates that Khamaseen low pressure winds will be present over the Western Desert as of Wednesday. The EMA indicated that this low pressure will cause active winds that will raise sand and dust across most areas, reducing horizontal visibility. Monday, April 28th, 2025, will witness warm weather during the day in Greater Cairo, the Delta, and northern Upper Egypt, moderate weather on the northern coast, and hot weather in South Sinai and southern Upper Egypt. It will be moderate in the early evening and cool in the late evening and early morning in most areas. The day will also witness active winds in some areas, and morning fog on agricultural and highway roads and roads near water surfaces leading to and from Greater Cairo, the Delta, the northern coast, the Canal cities, and northern Upper Egypt. The Meteorological Authority announced today's expected maximum and minimum temperatures as follows: Cairo: Highs of 28°C Lows of 18°C Alexandria: Highs of 25°C Lows of 16°C Matrouh: Highs of 22°C Lows of 14°C Sohag: Highs of 33°C Lows of 19°C Qena: Highs of 35°C Lows of 20°C Aswan: Highs of 35°C Lows of 21°C

Khamaseen winds to sweep Egypt, bringing heat and dust
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has revealed the expected weather conditions across the country, stating that it will be warm during the day in Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt, moderate on the northern coasts, and hot in southern Egypt and South Sinai. Nighttime and early morning weather will be mild in most areas. The EMA announced that starting next Sunday, the country will experience the effects of a 'Khamaseen depression,' with wind activity across most regions. These winds will stir up sand and dust in open areas, and a heatwave will affect the country, with temperatures rising above average in most locations. The EMA urged individuals with chest and sinus allergies to wear masks, stay indoors, and avoid open spaces to prevent inhaling dust. Today's weather will include a chance of light rain in areas of the northwestern coasts and northern Lower Egypt at intermittent intervals. Weather maps indicate wind activity in South Sinai and southern Egypt, which may stir up sand and dust in parts of the Red Sea mountain ranges at intermittent intervals. Cairo's high will be 26 degrees Celsius with a low of 16 degrees Celsius, while 6th of October City will see a high of 27 degrees Celsius and a low of 17 degrees Celsius.

Is it summer? EMA advises on wearing fall clothes until May due to weather fluctuations
Weather - file CAIRO - 3 April 2025: Dr. Manar Ghanem, a member of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority's media center, urged citizens not to wear summer clothes at this time because of the fluctuation in daytime and nighttime temperatures. The EMA member advised that citizens wear fall clothes until the beginning of May. Ghanem added that during the coming period, the weather will be hot during the day and cold at night, with no weather phenomena. She noted that the chances of rain have diminished in the governorates after it fell yesterday in some areas due to the presence of a low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere. Ghanem confirmed that the coming period will witness stable spring weather, with no dust or sand until the beginning of next week. However, it is possible that it will occur at other times, as we are in the spring season, during which we witness significant sand and dust storms due to the influence of desert masses or Khamaseen depressions. As of Thursday, the weather will begin to stabilize somewhat, and the sand and dust will disappear, with improved visibility in the Upper Egypt governorates, with the weather conditions stabilizing in the rest of the governorates until the beginning of next week. The country will witness stable weather conditions and temperatures around the normal rates or higher than the average by one degree. Greater Cairo will record highs from 27 to 29 degrees Celsius, with a decrease in wind speed, which may become slightly active in the evening to moderate the atmosphere and give us a feeling of a decrease in temperatures during the night.
