Aamir Khan said that while he, Shah Rukh, Salman are called 'top three Khans,' actors like Ajay Devgn, Hrithik Roshan, and Akshay Kumar have also been in the industry just as long.
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently responded to a question about being one of the 'top three Khans' in the film industry, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, by raising his objection with the label. In an interview with Raj Shamani, Aamir said that actors like Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, and Hrithik Roshan have also been in the industry for the same number of years and have delivered multiple hits, and that they deserve equal credit for their contributions.
Aamir Khan said it upsets him when people only take his, Shah Rukh and Salman's names. While he has no problem with the tag, he feels bad that actors like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, who have been in the industry for just as long, don't get equal credit. 'Mujhe jo cheeze taqleef deti hai ki log Shah Rukh, Salman aur mera naam lete hai. Hum teeno ka naam lete hai, acchi baat hai, galat baat nahi hai. Lekin mujhe bura lagta hai ki humare saath saath Ajay Devgn bhi itne hi saal chale hai, Akshay Kumar bhi itne hi saal chale hai, Hrithik bhi itne hi saal chale hai (What hurts me is that people take my, Shah Rukh, Salman's names. They take our names, it's good, it isn't wrong. But what I feel bad that along with us, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, and Hrithik Roshan were also there)," he said.
Aamir further stated that they all started working in films in the 1980s, and deserve due credit. He explained that their generation includes many successful actors who have been consistently working for 30-35 years and have delivered numerous hits. 'Woh generation sirf Salman, Shah Rukh aur main nahi. Hum mein se kayi log hai jo 30-35 saal se kaam kar rahe hain, jo normal nahi hai. Sabne badi hits di aur sab bohut kamyaab hai. Toh main yeh correct karna chahta hu. (That generation isn't just Salman, Shah Rukh and me. There are many of us who worked for 30-35 years, it's not normal. Everyone has given hits and all of them are successful. So I want to correct it)," he added.
When asked why their names are considered as the 'top three Khans', Aamir suggested that it might be due to their films breaking box office records or performing well commercially.
Aamir debuted as a lead actor in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) with Juhi Chawla, while Salman debuted in Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) with Bhagyashree. Akshay's first Bollywood film was Saugandh (1991) with Raakhee and Shantipriya. Ajay debuted in Phool Aur Kaante (1991) with Madhoo and Aruna Irani. Shah Rukh made his debut in the musical romance Deewana (1991) with Divya Bharti.
Meanwhile, Aamir is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film 'Sitaare Zameen Par'. Directed by R. S. Prasanna, the film will be released in theatres on 20th June, 2025.
