Cannes 2025: At 65, Boman Irani makes dapper red carpet debut
Indian actor-director Boman Irani made his red carpet debut at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, looking sharp in a patterned black tuxedo and shades. Irani, 65, is part of Anupam Kher's forthcoming directorial Tanvi The Great, which was screened at the Cannes film market Marché du Film. The drama film follows a 21-year-old woman with autism who pursues her late father's dream of standing atop Siachen and saluting the Indian flag. In the film, Irani plays the role of Raza Saab, a legendary music maestro. Irani and Kher were co-stars in Dibakar Banerjee's groundbreaking comedy-drama Khosla Ka Ghosla! Sharing glimpses of his Cannes debut, Boman Irani wrote on social media, 'You dream. You prepare. You tell stories. And one day, you find yourself waving on the red carpet at #Cannes.' A former photographer and theatre actor, Boman Irani has featured in several iconic Hindi films like Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. and 3 Idiots. He made his directorial debut with The Mehta Boys, streaming on Prime Video. The Cannes film festival will conclude on May 24, 2025.

The recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir has left the country in shock. Among the victims was Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal who was visiting Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley with his wife for their honeymoon. He had tied the knot just a week before on April 16. But their happy trip turned into a tragedy when terrorists opened fire on tourists, killing Narwal along with 25 others. The Navy officer was laid to rest with full military honours in his hometown of Karnal, Haryana. Amid the emotional scenes from the funeral, a post has now sparked controversy on social media. An X user, who claims to be a former army officer, is facing backlash for his comments on the funeral. The user with the moniker Lt Col Sumit Mohan Garg shared a video where women naval officers were seen carrying the casket of the martyred officer. In his post, the X user criticised the decision to have women officers carry the casket. He questioned the practicality of showcasing 'feminism" and 'equality" at such a sombre event. According to him, physical strength is a critical requirement in the armed forces and the moment was not appropriate for such a display. '#Feminism and #Equality don't work in a practical world. Actor Ranvir Shorey, known for his performances in films like 'Khosla Ka Ghosla', 'Traffic Signal,' and 'Bheja Fry', too seemed to agree. Another person added, 'Absolutely agree, Sir. A coffin isn't a prop. A funeral isn't a stage. And a soldier's last rites aren't an occasion for woke experiments. Disgraceful."
