Ellen DeGeneres Shares Glimpse Inside Stunning $18 Million U.K. Farmhouse—While Showing Off Her Unique New Pets
has revealed a rare look inside her $18 million retreat in the British countryside—while revealing that she and wife Portia de Rossi are now sharing the space with some fuzzy new friends: their 'house sheep.'
DeGeneres, 67, and de Rossi, 52, relocated abroad at the end of 2024 and began a new life together in the British countryside. They reportedly snapped up a historic property in the Cotswolds, which they are in the process of overhauling and extending.
Their choice of home has come with its fair share of new experiences, including the maintenance of the farmland that surrounds it, which DeGeneres has approached with gusto. Now, it seems that they are happily embracing the adventures of a more rural lifestyle, particularly the wildlife.
DeGeneres captured one of these special experiences in a video shared on Instagram. It revealed the moment a flock of sheep strolled into their living room and proceeded to make themselves very comfortable, even climbing onto the furniture.
'We have house sheep,' she wrote across the funny video.
The clip began showing four newly sheared sheep strolling in through an operable glass wall, which was opened up to the great outdoors. A gravel driveway and lush landscaping are seen in the background.
One of the sheep then approaches the couple's dog, Kid, who jumped out of his bed at the sight of the farm creatures.
'They're coming inside?' de Rossi can be heard asking her spouse in the video.
'Yeah, they're inside,' DeGeneres replied.
The comedian captioned the video, 'Our sheep keep coming inside. To be fair, we do have a piece of furniture that looks like a sheep, but that one doesn't try to eat our rugs.'
In another video, DeGeneres filmed the sheep from the farmland surrounding her property, revealing that she and de Rossi are enjoying their peaceful life abroad.
The glimpse inside her property comes after renovations on the property caused a bit of a 'clash' with their neighbors.
However, the pair's new home gave them a chance to pursue one of their favorite hobbies: renovating homes.
'It's a chance to relive the greatest moments of their marriage,' an unnamed source told In Touch of the impact the project has had on the couple. 'Picking out linens and flooring and faucets, doing renovations, working with architects and decorators.
'This is the stuff that they live for, not being famous or pleasing audiences.'
The insider added that DeGeneres and de Rossi view the farmhouse as a 'fresh canvas' that they can 'work on together' to turn it into their dream home.
Meanwhile, a separate source told the outlet that the couple have also found joy in taking care of animals and even donated to local wildlife sanctuaries.
'They both feel incredibly called to help all kinds of animals. The gorillas have had a special spot in their hearts, but if they could, they'd help all the animals,' the insider said.
The source noted that while DeGeneres has plenty of things she can do with her reported $500 million net worth, she is choosing to use it for good.
'Ellen has enough money to last several lifetimes, [but] she wants to put it to use to make a positive difference,' the insider added.
DeGeneres and de Rossi, although more famous for their on-screen work, have cultivated a lucrative side hustle as real estate moguls. Over the past 15 years, they've bought and sold more than a dozen homes in California, often for a hefty profit.
In 2011, DeGeneres and de Rossi opened up about their burgeoning real estate empire in an interview with Architectural Digest. In it, they joked about how the comedian's homebuying habits had quickly spiraled after she snapped up her first home.
DeGeneres' first home was a Spanish bungalow in West Hollywood, CA, which she fixed up and then sold.
During that process, she told AD, she realized if she could 'make some improvements,' she could make a profit.
The couple haven't been shy about showing off their life in the U.K., having previously taken to social media to reveal that they were soaking up every ounce of moving bliss they could.
The former TV show host took to Instagram to show off a stunning photo of de Rossi in front of a double rainbow that appeared above their Cotswolds estate, which is about two hours from London.
The flick gave fans a glimpse of the couple's lush landscaping and stone-paved pathway.
'3 things that make me happy, my Wife. A Rainbow. And my wife taking a photograph of a Rainbow,' DeGeneres wrote in the caption.
Fans gushed over DeGeneres and de Rossi's love for each other.
'Nothing tops this, love, light, and a rainbow,' wrote one fan. Another added, 'Aw how lovely, I hope you are settling into the U.K.'
Just one month ago, the TV personality sold one of her last Los Angeles–area homes for more than $200,000 over its asking price—just 10 days after listing it.
The two-bedroom, two-bathroom Montecito, CA, property was sold for $4.99 million on March 10.
It is the latest indication that DeGeneres and de Rossi are committed to their new life in the U.K., despite multiple reports suggesting that the move has not been without its difficulties.
According to one report from London-based newspaper the Daily Mail, DeGeneres quickly found herself 'in peril of getting on the wrong side' of a high-profile member of her new neighborhood after she 'committed a 'technical breach'' during the build of a single-story extension at her new abode in what the outlet described as a 'planning clash.'
The former TV host and her wife are understood to have purchased the home in June, five months before news of their relocation plans were revealed.
However, their fresh start across the pond was dampened somewhat after three local councilors raised concerns that DeGeneres and de Rossi's extension might 'increase flood risk in the village' and 'disturb Roman remains.'
DeGeneres and de Rossi are reported to have received several objections from their neighbors.
Their issues are understood to have prompted DeGeneres and de Rossi to set their sights on a new 10,000-square-foot mansion, which they are already said to have 'looked at several times.'
