'Potential is frightening' - what can Delap bring to Chelsea?
Liam Delap had an instant impact at Ipswich Town and thinking back, he may well have played a small part in the Premier League title race as running Jarell Quansah ragged during the opening 45 minutes of the season at Portman Road, Liverpool boss Arne Slot made a change at centre-half and kept Ibrahima Konate as his first choice for the rest of the only grew in confidence after his performance against the side that were eventually crowned champions, and would go on to score a third of Town's league goals in their first top-flight campaign since a player, his qualities are many - and his potential is is an undoubted eye for goal, both inside and outside the box, and Delap also has a turn of pace that has caught a few defenders unaware. Add to that his obvious strength - hold-up play and readiness for a battle - and you have a player who appears tailormade to play the lone striker role is fair to say that Delap was not Ipswich's most eye-catching signing last summer, with bigger headlines created by Omari Hutchinson's permanent switch from Chelsea and the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips from Manchester was no secret that Kieran McKenna was also keen to bring in another striker. However, when those efforts failed, it became clear that Delap would be leading the line from August, despite having never started a Premier League game - and it is safe to say he made the most of the will be very interesting to see how he handles this next step.

Liam Delap makes final decision over next club as Ipswich striker SNUBS Man Utd transfer
LIAM DELAP'S list of suitors have been informed that the Ipswich Town striker will not be joining them, with the star voicing his preference to join Chelsea instead. Clubs including Manchester United, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are now aware Delap will snub a move in favour of a Chelsea switch, according to The Athletic. Delap, 22, is one of the most sought after talents in the Premier League after scoring 12 goals for Ipswich Town this season. And his enticing £30million release clause has made him a target for top clubs across the league and Europe. However, it now appears that the forward - who is the son of former Stoke City icon Rory Delap - has decided he wants to join Chelsea over the other clubs interested. The Athletic report that European giants AC Milan and Juventus were included in his list of admirers. It's claimed that Delap will now join Chelsea if the Blues can meet the requirements of his release clause and come to an agreement with the England youth international over personal terms. Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna revealed last week that Delap had been considering his options after the Tractor Boys' relegation was confirmed. He said: "Liam's looking at his options for next year, which I think he is entitled to do and we support him with that. "I think we have given him permission to do that this week. It's a very important decision for his future. Of course there is a lot of interest - and rightly so. "I think part of his week has been having some of those conversations It looks more likely than not that he will move on this summer and he has interest from pretty much every club in the league, and I don't think there are many clubs in the world who wouldn't want to have him. "Nothing is sorted, nothing is done or completed or even very, very, very close, so that process will take its course." If Chelsea are to complete the signing of Delap then it could end their interest in Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres. The Blues had also been linked with RB Leipzig bagsman Benjamin Sesko.

Former Man United star lands first managerial job as he takes charge of League One club
A former Manchester United star has been appointed as the new manager of a League One club. It is the first time that the ex-player has taken on a managerial job. He has previous experience of working as an assistant coach and will now be eager to test himself in management. The club had finished the season with a temporary coach in charge after sacking their previous manager in March. The new boss had a lengthy playing career during which he mainly featured in the Championship. He announced his retirement from playing three years ago. Huddersfield have appointed former goalkeeper Lee Grant as their new manager. Grant, 42, has signed a three-year deal with the Terriers after the League One club agreed compensation with Ipswich, where he worked as head coach Kieran McKenna's assistant. Huddersfield sacked previous boss Michael Duff in March and had placed former captain Jon Worthington in temporary charge. The Terriers said: 'We are delighted to confirm that Lee Grant has today been appointed manager of Huddersfield Town, joining the club on a three-year contract ahead of the 2025-26 season. 'Grant has been permitted a release to join Town with immediate effect following the conclusion of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign after a compensation agreement was agreed. 'Lee will be joined at the club by his own coaching team, with full details to be shared in due course.' Grant retired as a player in 2022 after a 22-year career, making over 500 professional appearances, which included spells at Derby, Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley. He joined Ipswich as assistant coach after hanging up his gloves and helped the club win back-to-back promotions to the Premier League in consecutive seasons. Grant added: 'This is an exciting time to be joining the club and there is so much potential and opportunity for us going forward, and I couldn't be more motivated to play my part in that journey. 'I'd like to thank chairman Kevin Nagle and CEO Jake Edwards for giving me their trust, and I hope to repay that with time as we head into the summer and season ahead.' Grant was at United between 2018 and 2022 and made just two appearances for the club. He featured against his former club Derby in the League Cup in 2018 and was also involved against Astana in the Europa League in 2019.
