Out-of-state professor accused of 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in Box Elder County
TREMONTON, Utah () — An out-of-state university professor was taken into custody in Box Elder County on Monday, accused of 20 counts of second-degree felony sexual exploitation of a minor. The suspect, identified as Collin James Hawkins, 27, had allegedly downloaded several videos containing child sex abuse material (CSAM) onto two separate phones. According to court documents, Kik, a messenger app, reported the illegal content to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The case was originally assigned to the Idaho Crimes Against Children task force, but was later transferred to Utah after his name and address were found to be associated with a home in Tremonton. Utah detectives conducted a search of the home on Sunday, June 1, and detained Hawkins for questioning. Hawkins reportedly asked to speak to an officer privately and was told they were serving a warrant for evidence of CSAM. When asked, Hawkins allegedly told officers that it was not surprising that they were there. Hawkins was taken into custody but declined to speak with investigators any further and requested an attorney, according to court records. He was booked into the Box Elder County Jail on 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a child, but officers said they believe 'this is a generously underestimated amount.' Court documents did not disclose the institution where Hawkins teaches. Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. NJ Catholic school teacher accused of secretly recording young girls
A now former New Jersey high school teacher is accused of secretly recording girls at two different malls, and at least one student at the Catholic school where he worked. Axel Palomares, 50, was arrested on Tuesday following the execution of a search warrant at his home in Morristown, authorities announced. He's facing multiple charges including creating and possessing child sex abuse material. Prior to his arrest, Palomares taught Spanish and coached the girls soccer team at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Edison, according to An investigation into Palomares began in December after authorities received a tip regarding a user on the Kik chat app talking about his illicit recordings and having fantasies of abusing kids. Amid their investigation, law enforcement learned that Palomares had been seen on surveillance video 'spending a considerable amount of time' in bathrooms at the Bridgewater Commons, according to a criminal complaint. He was also seen on various occasions at the Short Hills Mall in Millburn, where he's believed to have recorded young girls in compromising positions. He's similarly accused of filming upskirt videos of at least one female student at St. Thomas Aquinas. A warrant obtained by ABC 7 says the alleged misconduct occurred between April 2022 to at least March of this year. The search of Palomares' home turned up a small recording device and hundreds of images of child sex abuse, authorities said. No cameras or other other recording equipment were found when they swept the school following his arrest, reported Palomares is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility while awaiting a pre-trial detention hearing on Friday. In a statement to ABC 7, the Catholic Diocese of Metuchen said it was 'devastated to learn' that its students' privacy may have been violated by the 'sickening conduct' of which Palomares is accused.

Sick mum agreed predator could stay at house to rape her 12-year-old daughter
In a shocking case, the mother of a 12 year old girl consented to let a registered sex offender into her home after they discussed in "graphic detail" his plans to rape her daughter. The woman engaged in a disturbing conversation with John Davies, 45, on Kik, where they plotted for him to visit her house to assault the child. Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court was told how the two adults described the vile acts that would be perpetrated on the girl, including specifying the attire she would wear, with Davies warning she'd be "sore by the end of the week". The predator even shared an image of his sex toy collection, detailing how he intended to use them on the young girl. The girl's mother had agreed for Davies to stay at her place for a week while her husband was away. On Tuesday, Davies received an extended 20-year prison sentence, comprising 14-and-a-half years behind bars and an additional five-and-a-half years on extended licence. Davies had previously been imprisoned in 2016 for attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming and attempted sexual activity with a minor under 16. He violated the Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) on five occasions between 2022 and 2023, and in April last year, he confessed to his offender manager that he needed help, revealing he possessed a second mobile phone at home, reports the Mirror. On April 27, 2024, police searched his residence and discovered the phone hidden in a kitchen cupboard. Analysis revealed it contained 132 indecent images of children at category A - the most severe; 35 at category B, and 77 at category C. Prosecutor Josh Daley disclosed in court: "The images showed young girls, aged six to nine, being raped and in pain. The defendant was asked what age he likes and he said, 'Ideally seven to 10 being f*****'. He used 15 instant messaging services and he used usernames without informing the police." Mr Daley conveyed that on the gravest count, Davies had made plans with a woman from Birmingham to rape her 12 year old daughter. He detailed, "He sent a picture of his sex toy collection and discussed how he would use gags, restraints and a collar. He said, 'It is a fantasy of mine. I want somebody to give me a chance'. He also sent a category A image of a child aged between seven and nine." Davies entered guilty pleas to charges including arranging the commission of a child sex offence (rape of a child under 13), attempting to communicate sexually with a child, distributing a class A indecent image of a child, making indecent images of children, and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). Paul Cliff, for the defence, argued that Davies's conviction stemmed from his candidness in revealing the phone to his offender manager, and stressed that no actual harm had come to the girl. Judge Graeme Smith declared that Davies was "undoubtedly dangerous", commenting, "You discussed at length in disgustingly graphic detail what you intended to do to the woman's 12-year-old daughter." His Honour also noted the extra degradation and humiliation that was intended towards the victim by the planned use of various sex toys. Davies was put on the sex offenders' register for life.c

Sick mum arranged for sex offender to stay at her home to abuse daughter
The woman planned for him to stay for a week while her husband was away, a court was told. A mum arranged for a registered sex offender to come to her house with the intention of abusing her 12-year-old daughter, a court has heard. John Davies, 45, had explicit discussions with the woman about the sexual abuse that would take place, with the pair deciding what clothes her daughter would wear and how he intended to use his collection of sex toys on her. The plans were made for him to stay at the woman's house in Birmingham for a week while her husband was away, with him adding the young girl would be "sore by the end of the week". Following his appearance at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, Davies, from Fenton, Staffordshire, has been handed an extended 20-year prison sentence, made up of 14-and-a-half years in custody and five-and-a-half years serving an extended licence. He had previously served time behind bars in 2016 for offences including attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming and attempted sexual activity with a child under 16, Manchester Evening News reports. He breached the Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) on five occasions between 2022 and 2023. Last April, he told his offender manager he had a second mobile phone and needed help. Police recovered the phone from a kitchen cupboard, and analysed its contents. It held 132 indecent images of children which were category A, the most serious, with another 35 at category B and 77 at category C. Prosecutor Josh Daley said: "The images showed young girls, aged six to nine, being raped and in pain. The defendant was asked what age he likes and he said, 'Ideally seven to 10 being f*****'. He used 15 instant messaging services, using usernames without telling the police. The court heard he engaged in a chat on the app Kik, but it was unclear whether she was a child. However, the most serious charge involved his plans with the woman in Birmingham to sexually abuse her young daughter. Mr Daley said: "He sent a picture of his sex toy collection and discussed how he would use gags, restraints and a collar. He said, 'It is a fantasy of mine. I want somebody to give me a chance'. He also sent a category A image of a child aged between seven and nine." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Paul Cliff, mitigating, said it was Davies' honesty in telling his offender manager about the second phone which brought about the convictions, adding no physical abuse took place on the girl. Judge Graeme Smith said in his view Davies was 'undoubtedly dangerous'. He said: "You discussed at length in disgustingly graphic detail what you intended to do to the woman's 12-year-old daughter." The judge added there was further degradation and humiliation intended to the victim through the use of sex toys. Davies admitted to arranging the commission of a child sex offence (rape of a child under 13), attempted sexual communication with a child, distributing a class A indecent image of a child, three charges of making indecent images of children, and three charges of breaching a SHPO. A jury later found him guilty of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence - rape or assault by penetration of a child under 13. He was also placed on the sex offenders' register for life.
