Aaron-Wooi Yik tame top Danes to set up all-Malaysian final
Newly-crowned Thailand Open champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik defeated their Danish rivals in 63 minutes. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Asian champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik beat the world No 1 pair from Denmark Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen to set up an all-Malaysian men's doubles final at the Malaysia Masters. Backed by a capacity crowd, the Malaysian world No 4 pair took 63 minutes to overpower the defending champions 21-19, 17-21, 21-15, at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. They will meet compatriots Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun in the final tomorrow. Whoever wins, it will be the first title on home soil for the Malaysian pairs. MORE TO COME

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Unfancied pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun continued their winning ways by storming into the final of the men's doubles event at the Malaysia Masters badminton championships today. The world No 8 pair, who shocked their world No 2 compatriots Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani in the quarter-finals yesterday, were on fire as they brushed aside Japanese duo Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi 21-12, 21-14 in a match that lasted just 31 minutes. In the final tomorrow, they will meet the winners of the match between world No 1 pair Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen from Denmark and Malaysia's Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik. MORE TO COME

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Ace pairing Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik sent home fans into a frenzy by outplaying Danish pair Rasmus Kjaer-Frederik Sogaard at the Malaysia Masters badminton championships today. The world No 3 pair defeated their opponents 21-10, 21-19 at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. Aaron-Wooi Yik had to put up a fight in the second game after falling behind 12-16, but emerged victorious in the 35-minute match. They will meet another Danish pair, world No 1 Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, in the semi-finals tomorrow. MORE TO COME
