‘Nine Puzzles' becomes Disney+'s most-watched Korean series of 2025 within 9 days after its global premiere

Disney+ has announced that its latest Korean drama 'Nine Puzzles' has become the platform's most-watched Korean series globally in 2025. The gripping crime thriller reached this milestone just nine days after its debut on May 21. Starring 'The Witch's Kim Dami as Yoon E-na, 'Nine Puzzles' follows the story of a young woman whose life was changed by a shocking murder. As a high school student, E-na discovered her uncle's lifeless body at home, with a strange puzzle piece lying next to him. With no memory of how she got there, and being the only witness, she quickly became the prime suspect. Ten years later, E-na has transformed into a skilled criminal profiler working for the Seoul Metropolitan Police. But the trauma of her uncle's unsolved case still haunts her. When a new string of murders emerges—each one marked by the same type of puzzle piece—E-na is pulled back into the past. She must now work alongside Detective Kim Han-saem, played by 'My Liberation Notes' Son Sukku, who originally led the investigation into her uncle's death and still quietly questions her innocence. Directed by Yoon Jongbin and written by Lee Eunmi, the show features a strong supporting cast including Kim Sungkyun and Hyun Bongsik. 'Nine Puzzles' joins a growing list of Korean titles on Disney+, such as 'Unmasked' and 'Hyper Knife'. Upcoming releases include 'Low Life', a treasure-hunting adventure starring Ryu Seungryong, and 'Tempest', an international thriller featuring Gang Dongwon and John Cho. Another K-drama that is all set to be streamed on Disney+ in the second half of the year is 'The Manipulated'. Starring Ji Changwook and Do Kyungsoo, the release date of this show is yet to be announced. The series has captivated audiences with its suspenseful plot, emotional depth, and standout performances—making it a standout hit in Disney+'s global line-up.

Son Suk-Ku And Kim Da-Mi Gather Clues In K-Drama ‘Nine Puzzles'

When E-na is questioned by the police about the death of her uncle, she can't remember anything. So, she becomes the prime suspect in the Korean drama Nine Puzzles. There's no evidence to indict any suspect except for a puzzle piece that E-na found on the floor. Her uncle, a former police chief, was everything to her after she lost her mother and father. Is it trauma that erased her memory? Or is she guilty? E-na, played by Kim Da-mi (Itaewon Class, My Beloved Summer), seems oddly detached for someone who lost her only surviving family member. Detective Han-saem, played by Son Suk-ku (A Killer Paradox, My Liberation Notes, Heavenly Ever After), is convinced she's the killer. Ten years later he still believes she's guilty. E-na, who now works as a police profiler, helps to identify likely suspects and motives, but she still can't remember anything about finding her uncle's body. She likes to live life in the fast lane, repeatedly bungee jumping from a bridge to experience the 'thrill of almost dying' and speeding around Seoul in her car. Therapy has not helped her uncover any memories of the murder night. She occasionally visits Han-saem at the police station to see if he's solved her uncle's death and finds his dedication admirable. One day a mysterious messenger delivers another clue, a single puzzle piece that fits neatly into the original puzzle piece, revealing even more images. Will this new piece of the puzzle convince Han-saem that E-na is innocent? That would be helpful since they need to find out the truth behind her uncle's death, as well as solve other cases that may or may not be related. Son and Kim are a great choice to play this oddball cat-and-mouse duo. Son's character sports a mysterious tattoo and has little patience for his co-workers. Kim's character can be flippant about murder. Both well-conveyed characters inhabit their own perplexing worlds, but share the ability to intensely focus when necessary. Together, the could solve the complicated puzzle. The drama also stars Kim Sung-kyun, Hyun Bong-sik, Jeong Man-sik and Lee Joo-young. Nine Puzzles is directed by director, actor and screenwriter Yoon Jong-bin. He previously directed the films The Spy Gone North and Kundo: The Age of Rampant, as well as the series Narco Saints. The screenplay for the 11-episode Disney series was written by Lee Eun-mi, who wrote the dramas Navillera and Tunnel. The series airs on Hulu in the U.S.

Korean Crime Thriller "Nine Puzzles" in Development

Yara Sameh Disney+ is continuing its strong direction into Korean content with 'Nine Puzzles,' a cerebral crime thriller starring Kim Dami ('Itaewon Class') and Son Sukku ('Big Bet'). The 11-episode series follows Yoon Ena, a high school student who discovers her uncle's murdered body next to a single puzzle piece. Initially, the prime suspect, Ena reemerges a decade later as a criminal profiler only to find herself entangled in a new series of murders — each victim connected by puzzle pieces similar to the one from her uncle's crime scene. The show brings together notable Korean talent beyond its leads, with Kim Sungkyun ('Moving,' 'The Fiery Priest') as Police Captain Yang Jungho and Hyun Bongsik ('When Life Gives You Tangerines,' 'Gangnam B-Side') as Junior Detective Choi San. 'Narco Saints' director Yoon Jongbin helms the project from a script by Lee Eunmi ('Tunnel,' 'Navillera'). The first six episodes will drop on May 21 on Disney+ internationally. 'Nine Puzzles' adds to Disney+'s growing slate of Korean originals that has already seen success in 2025 with the investigative thriller 'Unmasked' and medical drama 'Hyper Knife,' the latter becoming the platform's most-viewed Korean premiere globally this year. Disney+ has continued investment in Korean content with upcoming 2025 releases including the treasure-hunting drama 'Low Life' starring Ryu Seungryong and the international conspiracy series 'Tempest' featuring Jun Gianna, Gang Dongwon, John Cho, and Michael Gaston.
