Saudi Arabia's Riyadh Gets Its Own Monopoly Board
There's a new Monopoly board coming to market – and it's got all the happening places in Riyadh, the Saudi metropolis. The 'Riyadh Monopoly' will be up at stores in September after being announced on June 26 at the King Abdullah Financial District Conference Centre. The board is 'designed to reflect Riyadh's rich culture, notable landmarks and dynamic spirit'. Riyadh is going through a major transformation, including the creation of a swanky Downtown. In late 2019, the Dubai version of the Monopoly board was launched. (Monopoly is owned by the toy company Hasbro.) 'Riyadh Monopoly reflects our goal of making big, strategic projects accessible and engaging to all ages,' Mazroua Al-Mazroua, Chief Marketing and Experience Officer, at King Abdullah Financial District Development and Management Company. 'As the leading destination for international and local businesses in Saudi Arabia, we are creating new opportunities for the next generation to thrive. 'We want the new generation to recognize the names and places shaping their future. What better way than through play?' Over half of Riyadh's residents are under 20 years. 'Riyadh Monopoly is crafted to unite generations in friendly rivalry, whether strategizing over historic streets or modern skyscrapers,' said a statement. The Monopoly board game has been in existence for 90 years and has sold over 275 million. It has the Guinness World Record as the 'best-selling board game in history'. 'In a celebration of iconic landmarks and modern identity, the Riyadh Monopoly board itself is a cultural artefact,' said Sharif Hamad bin Majed Alowaishiq, Founder & Chairman of Saudi Youth Society. And the new board is about 'mapping the capital's evolution from historic quarters to striking skyscrapers, world-class districts, and new urban infrastructure and facilities'.

KAFD and Huawei Launch Smart WiFi-7 Service in Saudi Arabia
King Abdullah Financial District Development and Management Company (KAFD DMC) and Huawei have launched the first Smart WiFi-7 service in Saudi Arabia. The service is now available across the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), offering faster and more reliable internet connectivity. This rollout marks a major step in enhancing digital infrastructure within KAFD. It supports tenants, residents, and visitors with high-speed internet and smart city services. The new Smart WiFi-7 technology will improve user experience by ensuring seamless, secure, and stable connections. The service is part of KAFD's Smart City Platform, which uses AI and data analytics to deliver integrated digital solutions. It also helps optimize data usage and supports smart city development in line with Saudi Vision 2030. Ramez Al-Fayez, Chief Information Technology Officer at KAFD DMC, said the service reflects their commitment to innovation and urban development. He noted that it will improve the quality of life within the district and boost Riyadh's position as a leading smart city. Huawei's Deputy CEO in Saudi Arabia, Wang Xu, said the project highlights their commitment to digital transformation. He added that Smart WiFi-7 will provide better user experiences and insights for businesses across KAFD. With this technology, users can enjoy fast internet, smooth connectivity while moving across venues, and easy access through multiple login options. They will also receive personalized content and offers based on preferences. Retailers and restaurants in KAFD can benefit too. The system supports targeted advertising and gives access to real-time data for better decision-making. This helps improve both operations and customer engagement. The launch follows an MoU signed at LEAP 2025 between KAFD and Huawei. It reflects their shared goal of driving innovation and enhancing smart city experiences across the district's 1.6 million square meter area. KAFD is also the first neighborhood in the MENA region to receive the WiredScore Global Smart Neighborhood Certification. This recognizes its strong digital infrastructure, sustainability, and focus on live-work-play environments. The Smart WiFi-7 service adds to KAFD's growing digital ecosystem and helps set new standards for smart city living in the region.
