Coach Michel Gonzalez readies Al-Qadsiah for King's Cup final
JEDDAH: Spanish coach Michel Gonzalez put his Al-Qadsiah team through a light training session on Tuesday as they prepare for Friday's King's Cup final showdown against Al-Ittihad. Al-Qadsiah qualified for the final after beating Al-Raed 1–0 in the semifinal. Al-Ittihad beat Al-Shabab 3–2 to secure their spot. Gonzalez left several of his first team players out of Monday's Saudi Roshn League away clash with Al-Hilal at the Kingdom Arena, which they lost 2-0. Goalkeeper Koen Casteels, defenders Nacho, Ibrahim Mahnashi, Turki Al-Ammar, midfielder Nahitan Nandez and striker Julian Quinones were all rested ahead of final, which will be played at Al-Inma Stadium in King Abdullah Sports City. Al-Qadsiah will fly to Jeddah on Thursday and have their final training session at the stadium ahead of the match.

Sport Minister Crowns Al-Ittihad as Roshn Saudi League Champions
Minister of Sport and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal crowned Al-Ittihad Club champions of the 2024–2025 Saudi Pro League (Roshn Saudi League). The crowning followed their 1–0 victory over Damac Club on Monday evening at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah.

(Al-Ittihad pic) RIYADH : Al-Ittihad, captained by Karim Benzema, clinched the Saudi Pro League title with two matches to spare as they came from a goal down to beat Al-Raed 3-1 on Thursday. The win moved Al-Ittihad to 77 points from 32 matches, nine points ahead of second-placed Al-Hilal. A victory was all Al-Ittihad, coached by Laurent Blanc, needed to earn their 10th league title, and the first since 2023, but the already-relegated Al-Raed drew first blood as Omar Gonzalez gave the bottom team the lead from close range after nine minutes. Al-Ittihad, however, fought back with Steven Bergwijn equalising 12 minutes later. A Danilo Pereira header gave them the lead shortly before halftime. Two minutes into the second half, Abdulrahman Al-Oboud put the game out of Al-Raed's reach. The Jeddah-based club still have a chance to win another trophy this season as they take on Al-Qadsiah in the King's Cup final on May 30. Saudi Arabia seeks private sector investment in sports facilities
Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Sports has launched an investment project for sports facilities through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The ministry is seeking bids from private companies to invest in the operation, management and maintenance of sports facilities, it said in a post on social messaging platform X. The participation is currently open for King Abdullah Sports City and Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City in Jeddah, and King Abdulaziz Sports City in Makkah. Saudi Arabia opens three sports facilities to private investment
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has unveiled a major initiative to open up key sports venues to private sector investment, signaling a significant step forward in the Kingdom's efforts to transform the industry. Announced by the Ministry of Sport, the Sports Facilities Investment Project offers private investors access to three of the nation's premier sports complexes: King Abdullah Sports City and Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City in Jeddah, and King Abdulaziz Sports City in Makkah. Under the initiative, a range of five-year renewable contracts will be made available, the Saudi Press Agency reported. These include naming rights, leasing arrangements for non-match day use, and contracts to manage, operate, and maintain the venues. The move supports Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia's national strategy to diversify its economy and position the country as a global destination for sports, tourism, and entertainment. With the 2034 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, the government is stepping up efforts to attract private capital into its burgeoning sports sector. According to SPA, the initiative is part of 'modern operational models that aim to raise facility efficiency, improve service quality, broaden commercial opportunities, and enhance the fan experience.' Saudi Arabia's sports industry is currently valued at $8 billion and is projected to grow to $22.4 billion by 2030, fueled by investments in sports clubs, academies, facilities, and equipment. The government has already identified 20 high-priority investment opportunities within the sector, with a combined potential value of up to $20 billion. Hosting the 2034 World Cup is expected to further accelerate this growth, with forecasts indicating over 10 million international visitors, 1.5 million new jobs, and an economic boost of $9 billion to $14 billion to the national GDP. The tournament will be staged across 15 stadiums in cities including Riyadh, Jeddah, Alkhobar, Abha, and the futuristic city of NEOM. Interested investors are encouraged to submit proposals via the government's 'Furas' investment portal during the designated application period. Officials described the project as a strategic gateway into one of the Kingdom's most dynamic and fast-growing industries.
