Edaville sells off amusement park rides after sale of park grounds to King Richard's Faire
All of the attractions listed — some of which had been in storage for years — were sold, according to auctioneer Dan Satow. The drop tower sold for about $20,000, as did a tracked ride called the 'Alpine Railworks, while the park's carousel went for $99,000 with a buyer's premium, Satow said. But Edaville's famous narrow-gauge railroad, which has circled the park's cranberry bogs for nearly 80 years with the only active steam locomotives in Massachusetts, is expected to continue chugging along under the new ownership. Advertisement Satow said that most of the operating rides were in good condition and had received regular maintenance. Park operators had apparently planned to reopen in the spring, he added. 'When they closed the stuff up, they [tried to] make it ready, make it easier for the spring,' he said. 'They were doing maintenance and that type of thing. Then apparently the sale transpired.' Edaville had struggled to find a stable operator for years. Ownership Advertisement In March, the park's most recent management group, King Richard's Faire announced last month that it would relocate to the Edaville property in the fall. The theme park's nearly 250 acres were acquired in February for $8.7 million by a real estate holding company associated with the fair, according to documents filed in the Plymouth Registry of Deeds. 'Decades of tradition will continue on for both entities, and loyal fans of each can rejoice in the excitement of updated experiences,' fair organizers wrote on social media. For 40 years, the popular fair had also been held in Carver, on the grounds of a cranberry farm off Route 58. But organizers were unable to come to an agreement with the landlords on an new lease and left the spot in March, according to Aimée Sedley, the Faire's general manager. The new location at Edaville is better suited for travel and accessibility, she said, and will allow the fair to showcase more shows, food, and artisans. 'We had hoped to have a couple years to build out our new realm on this location,' she said. 'But we're now at light speed, because we open on Aug. 30.' Advertisement With the rush to get the new grounds ready, it was only natural to part with the rides that 'don't really work with the 16th-century' theme, Sedley added. That's not to say that Edaville will be completely refashioned to fit the renaissance theme. After the fair ends in October, Edaville will still hold its annual Christmas festival, which Sedley said would be 'completely separate.' The festival will include more holiday shopping as well as a larger variety of food and beverage options, she added. 'It really becomes a giant entertainment event, but still with the same features that made families ... love to come for the past 80 years to visit Edaville,' she said. Eventually, the new owners hope to host events in the spring and summer as well. The park is also looking at hosting themed train rides, such as an adult-oriented 'Rails and Ales' excursion, she added. But don't expect a knight in shining armor on your train car anytime soon. Edaville Railroad's amusement park rides will be auctioned in Carver. What's up for sale?
Edaville Railroad in Carver will auction off many of its amusement park rides on Wednesday, including a 1953 Ferris wheel, as the 80-year-old attraction makes way for what it is calling a "new, exciting era." What are the plans for Edaville Railroad? The family theme park announced earlier this month that King Richard's Faire is moving to Edaville. The long-running Renaissance festival that's the largest of its kind in New England will start its season on Aug. 30 and run on weekends through Oct. 19. In the meantime, Edaville says it plans to expand its Christmas traditions. "Edaville will add exciting entertainment, and delicious foods and beverage options, as well as expand its festive holiday marketplace," park operators said in a press release. What's on the auction block? According to a brochure by Spieth and Satow Auctions, vintage and newer rides, as well as dinosaur figures, will be on the auction block, including: 1990 Zamperla Flying Turtles 2015 Zamperla Crazy Bus 2015 Zamperla Tilting Tobey 2015 Cranberry Carousel/Willey the Whale 2015 Zameperla Sky Tower 2015 Zamperla Fire Brigade 2015 Zamperla Helicopter/Mini Jet 2015 Aerial Ride 2015 Zamperla Mini Ferris Wheel 2015 Zamperla Rockin Tub 2014 Zamperla Convoy 2014 Visa Spinning Lady Bug Coaster 1964 Allen Herschell Astronaut 1998 GR Rondina Clown Train 2006 SBF Balloon Drop 1964 AH Jolly Caterpillar 1986 Chance Carousel 1953 Eli Ferris Wheel 1962 Eli Scrambler 1994 ARM Bone Shaker S&W Jet A Bout Sally, Den of Lost Thieves Dark Ride Two Zamperla Pirate Ship Rides Tri-Level Soft Play 2019 Daniel Woods 6 Gun Shooting Gallery Multiple animated dinosaur figures Auctioneer Darren Spieth said he hopes to see the carousels get a new life at another theme park. "Everybody brought their grandkids and all their kids, and people get in the chariots and they pick their favorite horse and they just ... with the music and the theme of it ... people just love carousel rides," Spieth said. The rides must be removed from Edaville by May 15. Edaville Railroad's struggles The future of Edaville has been in question since the COVID pandemic hurt the business and a "Thomas Land" attraction featuring Thomas the Tank Engine was pulled. In 2022, when the railroad and park turned 75, new owners took over and said they were "committed to the long-term success of Edaville as a traditional family park centered on its historic steam locomotives and family-oriented activities." In 2023, the owners began to eye turning Edaville into a Christmas attraction and using the remaining land for housing units. Edaville is known for its Christmas Festival of Lights, and owners have said that the holiday season accounts for 60% to 70% of the park's business.

Edaville makes Christmas plans as King Richard's Faire moves in to theme park site
Major changes are coming to Edaville this year. But the family theme park and railroad in Carver, Massachusetts is planning to continue a holiday tradition. It was revealed last month that the nearly 80-year-old attraction is looking to offload its amusement park rides at an auction on April 30. A press release promised that Edaville was preparing "for a new exciting era in late 2025." On Friday, park operators officially announced that King Richard's Faire is moving into Edaville, and "will grow bigger and better than ever." The long-running Renaissance festival that's the largest of its kind in New England will start its season on Aug. 30 and run on weekends through Oct. 19. "Edaville will also experience a transformation, bringing new enchantment for guests but also continuing its tradition of Christmas and holiday light magic in December," the announcement said. "Edaville will add exciting entertainment, and delicious foods and beverage options, as well as expand its festive holiday marketplace." Previous Edaville owners talked about making Edaville "Christmas-only," saying that the holidays already accounted for up to 70% of the park's business. Edaville has struggled since the COVID pandemic, but continued to host a Christmas Festival of Lights for the holiday season, featuring "classic Christmas lights, rides, food and more." Aimee Shapiro Sedley, who is the general manager of King Richard's Faire, says a new generation will enjoy both Edaville and the Renaissance festival. "Tradition is important to us all and keeping the important aspects of our storied businesses will be a comfort to longtime fans," she said in a statement.
