17th-century village pub on the market for £550k

A village pub just a few miles from Bradford on Avon has hit the market. The Kings Arms is for sale at £550,000 and is being marketed by Christies and Co. The pub sits in the Monkton Farleigh, a village at the southern end of the Cotswolds. The village's roots stretch back to the medieval period and it is home to the historic Monkton Farleigh Manor, a former priory converted to a private residence in Tudor times. The listing, on Rightmove, states that it's a stone brick building with tiled roof and that parts of it trace back to the 16th century. It also states the pub retains "many attractive features, including a large inglenook fireplace". READ MORE: The pub reportedly has space for around 70 covers, as well as a large garden area that offers views of the surrounding countryside. The listing adds: "The first floor is given over to three well designed double rooms with en-suite facilities and a large master letting room, separate sitting room and a bathroom with roll top bath and shower cubicle. "The side entrance on the right hand elevation leads to the large car park and the trade garden, which has a raised seating area and views over the open countryside beyond. The outside terrace to the front of the building provides further outside trading space. "There is a single storey building to the rear of the garden with two rooms, with kitchen/diner and living/bedroom." In 2020, The Kings Arms reopened after £300,000 investment in the historic property by the property's owner, Punch Pubs & Co. Works included a full internal redecoration with new furnishings throughout. The beer garden was also updated. The Wiltshire Times reported that in August of that year the pub had come under new management. The new team reportedly included a one-star Michelin chef, Richard Tuplin. A Punch Pubs & Co spokesperson said: "As part of our ongoing business strategy, we do from time to time identify a pub that no longer has a long-term future in our estate. "After careful consideration, the decision has been made to sell the freehold of the Kings Arms pub in Monkton Farleigh."
