‘Get their racing rage out': Season begins at Regina's Kings Park Speedway
Members from the Regina Auto Race Club gathered at Kings Park Speedway on May 25 for the kick off to the 2025 racing season. In the official kick-off of this year's racing season, drivers fired up their engines at Regina's Kings Park Speedway Sunday. Over 100 people attended the opening day event and were treated to races of several classes such as hobby stock, hobby truck and mini stock. 'The racing community in Regina is growing every year. We have many generations of drivers and some folks coming in too,' Fred Fink, president of Regina Auto Race Club, told CTV News. 'We're going to introduce a 'Run Your Junk' event again this year. It won't be a sole one-day show, we're going to make it part of our regular routine. That's going to help bring out some of the younger folks, people that maybe aren't as highly skilled as a lot of these [racers] and give them a bit of a taste of what we do.' Organized entirely by volunteers, Fink said the racing community has been active in Regina for at least 60 years and continues to grow. 'We want to get as many people out here as we possibly can and get more of the younger generation introduced to this,' he shared. 'Ideally keep the, you know, the crazy racing off the streets and bring them here, let them get their racing rage out on the track where it's supervised and safe.' Kings Park Speedway Opening day races included hobby stock, hobby truck and mini stock classes. (Sierra D'Souza Butts/CTV News) In addition to the regular races, the club will also be hosting 'invitational races' throughout the season. 'The invitational brings folks from all across the province. It's unbelievable the amount of drivers and people that come out for that one,' Fink said. 'They are very experienced drivers, super fast cars and high-skill levels come with that weekend.'
