The best casual dining restaurants in Dubai 2025 WINNER Sufret Maryam (Credit: ITP Images, Sufret Maryam) There must be something in the water at Wasl 51. New to Time Out Dubai's top 10 casual restaurants in Dubai is Sufret Maryam, the latest creation from Salam Dakkak, chef-owner of Dubai institution Bait Maryam. Her new venture is a lot bigger but still cosy, thoughtfully decorated with works from Middle Eastern artists and rustic knick-knacks. Nostalgic Palestinian and Jordanian dishes are elevated to the level you'd expect from such a renowned chef, beautifully presented and executed. Splash out on the La'Moshet Maryam, a slow-cooked lamb shoulder marinated in chef Salam's special spices. It's a taste experience you'll want to repeat again and again. Unlicensed. Wasl 51, Jumeirah 1, sufretmaryam (050 417 2272). Check out our full Sufret Maryam review here Highly commended Khadak (Credit: Khadak) New casual Indian restaurant Khadak has a story to tell. It does this through everything from knick-knacks and wall-art to its revival of long-forgotten recipes and the culinary adventures of its chef founder Naved Nasir, famed for his years at London's Dishoom. The menu pays homage to Indian street food stalls across the country, with examples including Radio Café kheema pao, a nostalgic tribute to Bombay's former Radio Café, and chicken sukka, from the coastal kitchens of Mangalore. Every dish is described to make you want to try it – and served to make you want to tell everyone about it. Unlicensed. Villa 426, 12 Al Wasl Rd, Jumeirah 2, (058 979 7830). Kinoya Credit: Kinoya It may now have a branch at one of the fanciest department stores in the world – Harrods in London's Knightsbridge – but Kinoya in Dubai's The Greens is distinctly more casual. A top Japanese restaurant, this spot comes from supper club star chef Neha Mishra and has been a total hit since opening in 2021. Famed for its silky smooth ramen, this casual izakaya is a brilliant place to visit when you need a comforting bowl of soup, or some of the delicious gyoza, skewers and sushi. It's all excellent, so make a trip there, pronto. Licensed. Onyx Tower, The Greens, (04 220 2920). Check out our full Kinoya review here Shortlisted 21grams Credit: 21grams If the thought of a Balkan breakfast floats your boat then there's only one place in Dubai to head. Handmade from family recipes using seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers where possible, don't be surprised if you find yourself ordering a side of creamy polenta or an omelette butter roll with your order of sunny-side-up eggs with pulled beef. Just be warned, all that lovely wholesomeness makes this place popular, so be sure to book ahead. Unlicensed. Jumeirah Street next to Umm Suqeim 2, (050 841 5021). Check out our full 21grams review here Café Isan Credit: Café Isan One of the coolest spots in town and one of the best casual dining restaurants in Dubai, Café Isan is a top choice whenever you're in the mood for deliciously authentic Thai food. Dig into street food classics like spring rolls and chicken wings, as well as steaming, fragrant curries and flavour-packed stir-fries. The vibes are super-chill, especially in winter when you can sit on the terrace and take in the sights of the surrounding JLT skyscrapers. The service is warm and friendly, while the drinks are affordable and the poptastic tunes add to the laid-back atmosphere. Licensed. Armada Avenue Hotel JLT, Cluster P, JLT, (058 529 1003). Check out our full Café Isan review here Franky's Pizzeria Credit: Franky's Pizzeria The Park in JLT is one trendy place to visit – being home to cool Asian street food eatery Hawkerboi and café Splendour Fields. And now you'll also find Franky in Florence here – one of the best pizzerias in Dubai, and one of the newest. Neapolitan-style pizzas come adorned with toppings including cavallo nero, black truffle and mushroom, mussels and prawns, 'broken meatball' or classic stracciatella. The interiors are decked out with foliage and artwork, while the views from this rooftop spot are also superb. Order a drink and enjoy a slice at sunset. Licensed. The Park, JLT, @frankyspizzeria (050 427 5217). Check out our full Franky's Pizzeria review here Fusión Ceviche A petite, unassuming Peruvian spot in JLT serves absolutely brilliant ceviche. With super-fresh fish and packed full of flavour (and a fair amount of heat) it's one of the best Latin American restaurants in Dubai and a terrific place to delve into Peruvian food. With only a handful of tables, bag a spot at the counter and go with the chef's recommendations for the most authentic experiences. The Peruvian juices are worth a try too. A laid-back restaurant that's a top one to check out if you're looking for something a little more off the radar. Unlicensed. Cluster Q, JLT, @fusionceviche (04 449 6292). Check out our full Fusion Ceviche review here Hawkerboi Credit: Hawkerboi If you're in the mood for a cooler than cool casual dining restaurant in Dubai's JLT, then Hawkerboi is the one to check out. With a lively vibe, moody lighting and a range of creative mixed drinks, it's the prime place for a fun date night that's not too fancy but with great food. With Asian street food-style plates, dig into everything from curries to dumplings, satay, stir-fries and grills. The menu is affordable and there's even a supper club-style tasting menu for under Dhs400 that will see you trying more, for less, at this must-visit spot. Licensed. The Park, JLT, @ (505 427 5217). Check out our full Hawkerboi review here Isabella Cucina Italiana Authenticity is the order of the day at Isabella's, which prides itself on its house-made fresh pastas and pizza doughs, fermented for 48 hours. There are soups, salads, raw dishes and antipasti along with hearty mains, including popular picks like ossobuco and lamb chops. Every table should feature at least one wood-fired pizza and filled pasta and if you like fish, go for the classic branzino al sale, or salt-baked seabass to share. This is homestyle food served with care and a perfect option for a meal with all the family. Licensed. Vida Hills Hotel, Emirates Hills, (04 323 7347). Kokoro Hand Roll Bar (Credit: Kokoro) When Kokoro first opened in 2024, the hype around this little no-bookings sushi joint in quirky Al Quoz was huge. A year on and it's attention that's justified. Hailing from Texas, Kokoro is the brainchild of chefs Patrick Pham and Daniel Lee, who pride themselves on using only top-notch ingredients. There are 23 dishes on the menu, all made-to-order, including eight different handrolls. Sit at the bar to watch everything from the slicing of fish to the flame-torching of wagyu and marvel at the precision of the chefs as they work. Unlicensed. Al Serkal Avenue, Al Quoz, (04 259 7919). Neha Mishra on IWD: Founder of Kinoya on revolutionising ramen restaurants
Chef Neha Mishra is an industry disrupter. Female restauranteurs are few and far between, and Indian chefs cooking award-winning Japanese food are practically unheard of. Kinoya has an unlikely origin story. The concept first started as a supper club, A Story of Food. More than 7,000 meals later, it turned into a restaurant. In 2021, Kinoya opened in Onyx Tower in Dubai, and in 2023, it opened in Harrods in London. Neha has gained recognition from the FACT Dining Awards Dubai to MICHELIN Guide Dubai. Now, she is launching a new concept in Dubai with Atelier House Hospitality, although the name has not yet been confirmed. In honour of International Women's Day, Neha shares her story from supper club to international success. Kinoya is a homegrown concept. For that alone, I would recommend a visit. Of course, hopefully you'll become a frequent visitor. It is a ramen focused restaurant with plenty to offer. I am a firm believer that if anyone says ramen isn't for them, they simply have not met the right ramen for them. The London venue is a smaller outlet with a tighter offering, but it is also special. Ramen venues in Japan can be found in the basement of department stores. For Kinoya to be in an iconic space like Harrods feels full circle. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kinoya (@ That we are too emotional, and we are catty. On the contrary, women support each other tremendously and they are able to bring empathy and compassion into businesses and partnerships in the way we lead our teams. People would say, 'she's not Japanese, she can't make this food'. I doubled down on proving that I can do my own adaptation of Japanese food. There's a shift. More and more women have their own financial independence. That is something I would encourage, and advocate to every woman I know. When we are running businesses and have financial independence, we make better decisions in our personal lives. We give ourselves the freedom to choose, and that just makes us more fulfilled. We are happier mothers, wives, friends, colleagues and people in general. Validated. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kinoya London (@ We will expand slowly and meaningfully. There has to be a desire to create something special. The motive can't be the money. That can definitely be the by-product, but it can't be the primary goal. I am opening a concept towards the end of the year, in partnership with with Atelier House Hospitality. I am looking forward to it. Grown up women in business don't ask each other to 'let's go get haircuts together, or our nails done together', we go with 'let's open a place together'. Make sure you have your own financial autonomy. Don't take things personally. Life isn't trying to get you. GO: Follow @astoryoffood on Instagram for more information.

A new temaki bar is coming to Dubai, brought to you by Neha Mishra of Kinoya fame and Panchali Mahendra of Atelier House Hospitality
Hand rolls for days, coming soon by Neha Mishra and Panchali Mahendra… It's always good news when two F&B powerhouses team up for some food-related quests, and this new pairing featuring some top-tier names comes with the promise of an unmissable dining concept. Neha Mishra, chef, restauranteur, Kinoya, and Panchali Mahendra, CEO of Atelier House Hospitality, bringing to you concepts like 11Woodfire, Gerbou, Mohalla and more, are bringing a brand new concept to the city. Conceptualised, as all great things are, in the spur of a moment at Mishra's birthday celebration at home last year, where a serving of some DIY temaki rolls as a spread inspired an idea between the pair, this is going to be about all things temaki. We all know and love Kinoya, having started as a supper club and now making waves not only in Dubai, but also in London, for some of the best, heart-warming, soul-repairing Japanese ramen around town, casually scoring a Bib Gourmand on the Michelin Guide and the third spot on MENA's 5o Best. This will be a name completely independent of that identity, a new brand sharing no resemblance to any of Kinoya's offerings. Set to be all about temaki, the venture will be a new Japanese dining concept, emphasizing temaki and a unique speakeasy bar with a specialised cocktail program. The menu will feature a diverse selection of temaki, freshly prepared to preserve flavour and texture. The set-up of the venue and the concept will be such that diners will be able interact with chefs during meal preparation, making for a refined, interactive dining experience. The concept is set to open in the third quarter of 2025. It's being expected that the opening will be between August and September, explained Mishra in an Instagram post announcing the upcoming collaboration. 'We are excited to introduce this interactive dining concept, which combines culinary artistry with engaging experiences. Tailored to resonate with the city's appetite for innovative Japanese cuisine, doing this with one of the most talented chefs in the city, and my friend, is going to be a fun ride,' said Panchali Mahendra, in an official press statement. 'As a gaijin who has dedicated their life's work to the pursuit of understanding and creating (my own adaptation of) Japanese cuisine, this feels like a natural progression. Other than being a chef, creating concepts and being an operator appeals to me equally — this time from a unique perspective of being a conductor of the orchestra and allowing the craftsmanship to come from the masters. The partnership, experience, and infrastructure that AHH brings give strength and support to our collective vision,' added Neha Mishra. Stay tuned for all the exciting developments – we know we'll be… @astoryoffood, @atelierhousehospitality, @panchalimahendra Images: @neovikram > Sign up for FREE to get exclusive updates that you are interested in

These 2 renowned female restaurateurs are opening a temaki bar in Dubai
Life by Alice Holtham-Pargin 19 mins ago Chef Neha Mishra is the ramen-supperclub-chef-turned-award-winning-restaurateur behind Kinoya. Panchali Mahendra is the CEO of Atelier House Hospitality, responsible for acclaimed Dubai restaurants like 11 Woodfire and newly opened Gerbou. And now the two female culinary trailblazers are teaming up for a new Dubai restaurant – and we're already excited. In a heartfelt post on Instagram over the weekend, chef Neha Mishra announced her plans to open a temaki (hand roll) bar alongside Mahendra in Dubai later this year. Sharing how the idea came about, Mishra explained that she had done a DIY temaki spread for her at-home birthday party last year, which Panchali attended. Only a day later, the Atelier House Hospitality CEO called her and said 'I love those temaki's, let's open a place.' Although Neha said she has rejected several business offers in the last three years, she agreed to it 'before Panchali had even finished the sentence.' Concluding the post, Mishra said, 'I'm excited for this, I'm hopeful. Nothing is a given in f&b, sometimes it works, but sometimes you just learn. Saying that, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take so here's hoping that it works out and we learn along the way.' While she didn't give too much away, further details have been announced by Atelier House, who are behind several successful independent restaurants across Dubai and India. The brand new concept, described as a 'groundbreaking dining experience,' is slated to open in the third quarter of the year. No name or location has been given, but we know it will be licensed. In addition to the menu of unique and flavourful temaki, with guests able to watch as the rolls are prepared before their eyes, the venue will also feature a unique speakeasy bar. As per an Instagram post, this is set to be a 'hidden gem within the dining area [that] features a specialised cocktail program. Images: Instagram
