Kinston Police Department draws attention to Sentinel Program
KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — The Kinston Sentinel Program, a volunteer program embedded in the Police Department, is a staple in the Kinston community to bridge the gap between citizens and police.
Although the program has been around for more than twenty years, there is currently one active member as a part of the team. The police department is always eager to add new members to the team.
As a member of the Sentinel Program, you'll help the Kinston Police Department in day-to-day operations. Some of the duties involved would include police escorts for funerals, traffic control, and can even enforce tickets across Kinston when necessary. For younger people across the community, the Sentinel Program is a great way to get hands-on experience. Sentinel Ricky Hooker says joining the team was something he knew he was called to do.
'I wanted to come here and meet new people and connect with the community, and that's just a blessing within itself,' Sentinel Ricky Hooker said. 'One of the coworkers here that was a sentinel invited me here, so I decided to come, and it's just been rewarding all the way through.'
