Haridwar land deal 'corruption': CM Pushkar Singh Dhami orders probe against former civic body chief

HARIDWAR: Taking cognisance of complaints received from Haridwar mayor Kiran Jaissal and other sources, Uttarakhand chief minister

has ordered an inquiry into the charges of corruption against former municipal commissioner
Varun Chaudhari

As per the allegations, Chaudhari had bought 35 bighas of land adjoining the dumping ground at Sarai village for Rs 36 crore. The
land deal
had started to raise eyebrows a few months after Jaissal took charge as the mayor.
As per a press note by the information bureau, the CM has directed that secretary Peya Jal,
Ran Vir Singh Chauhan
will conduct a detailed and impartial inquiry into the matter and submit an early report to the administration.'
The CM said, 'Stringent action will be taken if an official or employee is found guilty,' adding that the government is firmly pursuing the policy of zero tolerance against corruption.
