Renowned composer visits Binghamton High School chorus
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Chorus students at Binghamton High School got to learn directly from the man whose arrangements they'll be singing in their end of year concert this week.
Renowned choral composer and director Kirby Shaw was a guest in the Helen Foley Theater on Tuesday to work with the young vocalists.
Shaw has nearly 3,000 choral compositions and arrangements in print and has sold over 20 million copies of his music.
On Tuesday, he provided feedback to Jennifer Easley's choral students who are preparing for their Spring concert on Thursday.
Shaw had this basic advice for the young singers.
'At the most basic level, keep music in your life. It's good for the world. Music has a ripple effect, make it a good one. This will make the world a little bit better every time you open your mouths and sing a song,' said Shaw.
Kirby will attend Thursday evening's performance and he's looking forward to hearing what the students do with his arrangements.
