Lanark Lanimers 2025: Lord Cornet Edward takes up role
Edward Pringle was installed in the traditional role at the beginning of Lanimer week, while new Queen Maisey Talbot will be crowned on Lanimer day on Thursday, June 12
Lanimer week is in full swing – with Lanark's new Lord Cornet being officially installed earlier this week and excitement now building ahead of the crowning of the Lanimer Queen.
The town's annual week of celebrations officially began with the Kirkin' of the Lord Cornet service at St Nicholas church on Sunday, followed by new Lord Cornet Edward Pringle officially taking up his role at the Shifting of the Standard ceremony on Monday's traditional Marches night.
He received his sash of office from Catherine McClymont, the Clydesdale West councillor, following the annual perambulation of the marches which was attended by 700 people who joined in with the centuries-old task of checking the royal burgh's boundary stones.
Edward told Lanarkshire Live ahead of the ceremony: 'I am looking forward to Lanimer week with a tremendous amount of excitement. I am sure it will be a wonderful week and I hope the whole community will have a wonderful time celebrating our ancient traditions. Happy Lanimers!'
The traditional Kirkin' ceremony was attended by ex-Lord Cornets, community representatives including Clydesdale MSP Mairi McAllan, and Lanimer court members and principals including Queen elect Maisey Talbot.
Lanark Grammar pupil Maisey will be crowned on Lanimer Day this Thursday, June 12, as huge crowds of thousands of local residents and visitors gather for the much-anticipated colourful state procession and the historic crowning ceremony under the statue of William Wallace.
She will be crowned by May Dickman in the focal point of the day's festivities, which will also include music and a family fun zone at Castlebank Park, and then the traditional evening procession and spectacular at the cross including a massed pipe band procession.
Lanimer week concludes with the Lanimer Queen's reception on Friday and the Lord Cornet's Lanimer ball takes place on Saturday evening.
