Iraqi man held at Raxaul for illegal entry into India
1 2 Motihari: An Iraqi national was arrested late on Saturday night at the Maitri Bridge near the customs check post in Raxaul, at the Indo-Nepal border, while attempting to enter Raxaul town from Nepal's Birgunj under suspicious circumstances. Raxaul serves as a major gateway to Bihar from Nepal. Following initial interrogation, the man, Bara Fauji Hamid Al Bayati, a 47-year-old resident of Baghdad, Iraq, was produced in a court on Sunday and subsequently sent to Motihari Central Jail. Kishan Kumar Paswan, SHO of Haraiya Police Station in Raxaul, detained the foreigner during routine checks at the border. "He has been arrested for trying to enter Indian territory at Raxaul without any valid documents," East Champaran SP Swarn Prabhat said. Investigations revealed that Bayati did not possess a visa to enter India. He had travelled alone from Nepal and attempted to cross into Raxaul illegally, showing no signs of fear or hesitation. The central security agencies are now probing his intentions for entering India. The incident has added to growing concerns over illegal infiltration by foreign nationals through the Raxaul border. "Continuous illegal infiltration and attempts by foreigners to enter India through the Raxaul border have become a serious concern for the police and other security agencies here," said an officer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Irish homeowners eligible for solar 'bonus' if they live in these eircodes Activ8 Learn More Undo Since April 24 this year, the SSB and immigration authorities have detained nine foreign nationals from countries including the United States, China, Canada, South Korea and Iraq, as well as people linked to Khalistani separatism.
