AACN recognizes Critical Care Unit, Progressive Care Unit at MMH with Beacon Award for Excellence

Feb. 20—Midland Memorial Hospital's Critical Care and Progressive Care Units were both just awarded the Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The AACN, based out of Aliso Viejo, California, recognized Midland Memorial Hospital's Critical Care Unit with a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence and Midland Memorial Hospital's Progressive Care Unit with a bronze-level Beacon Award for Excellence, making them the only designated units in the Permian Basin, a news release said. The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes unit caregivers who improve outcomes and align practices with AACN's six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Midland Memorial Hospital's Critical Care and Progressive Care units earned this incredible accomplishment by meeting specific criteria established by AACN that represent nursing excellence and demonstrate dynamic and outstanding performance in the areas of: Patient Outcomes, Nursing Workforce and Work Environment. AACN President Jennifer Adamski applauds the commitment of the caregivers in the Critical Care Unit and the Progressive Care Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital for working together to meet and exceed the high standards set forth by the Beacon Award for Excellence to achieve a silver and bronze level designation. These dedicated healthcare professionals join other members of our exceptional community of nurses, who set the standard for optimal patient care. "The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes caregivers in outstanding units whose consistent and systematic approach to evidence-based care optimizes patient outcomes. Units that receive this national recognition serve as role models to others on their journey to excellent patient and family care," she explained in the release. "We are honored and proud of our teams for this achievement," Dr. Kit Bredimus, Chief Nursing Officer at Midland Memorial Hospital, said in the release. "They continue to show their dedication to providing quality patient care to our community." To learn more, visit

MMH to host celebration honoring simulation programs achievements

Jan. 27—Midland Memorial Hospital invites the entire community to a special event celebrating the accomplishments of its Simulation Innovation Technology in Healthcare Program. This celebration will take place at 11 a.m. January 29 in the hospital's front lobby, bringing together staff, supporters, and community members to honor and learn more about the program. The event serves as an opportunity to recognize the program's recent accreditation in Teaching/Education by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), a global authority in healthcare simulation. This accreditation places Midland Memorial Hospital among an elite group of just 20 simulation programs in Texas to earn such distinction. It underscores the program's dedication to excellence, innovation, and empowering healthcare professionals to deliver outstanding care. "I couldn't be prouder of our simulation team — not only for their incredible hard work in earning this accreditation but also for their unwavering commitment to ensuring our medical teams have access to the highest quality training right here in Midland," Dr. Kit Bredimus, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Midland Health, said in a news release. The celebration on January 29 will bring these stories of progress to life, offering guests an inside look at the technologies, methods, and passionate team members driving this pioneering program. Visitors will view demonstrations, engage with the simulation team, and learn about how the program is supporting healthcare professionals and improving patient outcomes across Midland and beyond.
