Meet New Zealand actress Luciane Buchanan, star of Netflix's The Night Agent
The second season of The Night Agent – created by Shawn Ryan and starring Gabriel Basso – is a massive success, and it is catapulting its cast to super stardom. Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, the series sequel dropped on January 23 and is currently the most-watched English language television show on Netflix.
According to Netflix Tudum, production for season 3 is under way in Istanbul. But one familiar name doesn't seem to appear in the announced cast – Luciane Buchanan. Luciane Buchanan as Rose Larkin and Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland in The Night Agent. Photo: Netflix
Buchanan plays protagonist Peter Sutherland's love interest, Rose Larkin, who parts ways with him at the end of season 2. Speaking on the possibility of returning for another season, the actress told Deadline last week, 'I have no idea, and I can't spoil anything.' But she did tease that Rose might not stay away from Peter just because he tells her to.
Regardless of whether she's coming back, Buchanan is cherishing her The Night Agent days. In January, she shared a behind-the-scenes photo dump on Instagram, reflecting on her journey. 'Forever grateful for you guys taking a wild chance on me three years ago,' she wrote in part, thanking the show's creators.
So, what else do we know about Luciane Buchanan, who became the world's most-searched actress on IMDB when The Night Agent first dropped? What's her background? Luciane Buchanan has Tongan ancestry. Photo: @lucianebuchanan/Instagram
According to a 2017 interview with Fashion Quarterly, Buchanan is a Kiwi-Tongan actress, born and brought up in Auckland, New Zealand. She graduated from the University of Auckland with a bachelor's degree in drama and psychology. 'To be a young educated Tongan woman that gets to live the way I want, I mean it's pretty cool and I get to own it,' she said.
