State title games set in boys basketball
The HHSAA Boys Basketball State Championships are set following Thursday night's semifinal action, as Saint Louis and Punahou will clash for the Division I title, while Hawai'i Prep and Seabury Hall will battle for the Division II championship at SimpliFi Arena.
Saint Louis, Punahou Advance in Division I
The three-time defending state champion Saint Louis Crusaders survived a high-intensity battle with Kahuku, led by reigning Player of the Year Pupu Sepulona, who scored 16 points in a 38-31 victory.
On the other side of the bracket, Punahou punched its ticket to the championship game with a gritty 49-46 win over University. Tate Takamiya and Zion White combined for 26 points to help the Buffanblu hold off a tough University squad.
The Division I championship game will feature a classic ILH rivalry showdown, with Saint Louis and Punahou facing off for the Koa Trophy on Friday night at 7 p.m. at SimpliFi Arena.
Hawai'i Prep, Seabury Hall Set for Division II Final
In Division II, the championship matchup is also set after Hawai'i Prep and Seabury Hall emerged victorious in the semifinals.
Seabury Hall upset two-time defending champion Kohala, 59-49, ending the Cowboys' reign. Meanwhile, Hawai'i Prep earned its spot with a 61-51 victory over Aiea.
The Division II title game will tip off at 5 p.m. on Friday, serving as the first game of a championship-night doubleheader at SimpliFi Arena.
Both championship games will be televised live on Spectrum OC16.
