Waterman man charged with attempted murder of 71-year-old relative in Big Rock Township
An 18-year-old man from Waterman has been charged with attempted murder after what police said was a domestic disturbance that involved a threat to kill a 71-year-old family member on Saturday in Big Rock Township, according to a press release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Koda Uebel, 18, of Waterman, has been charged with one count of first degree attempted murder, two counts of aggravated domestic battery, one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a person 60 years old or older, two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, two counts of domestic battery, one count of resisting an officer and one county of possession or consumption of alcohol by a minor, according to the release. At around 12:06 a.m. on Saturday, deputies responded to a call about a possible domestic disturbance involving two family members at a home on the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue in Big Rock Township, according to the release. Deputies said that through a locked front door they saw a man, later identified as Uebel, punching, slapping and kicking a woman, as well as threatening to kill her, the release said. The deputies forced entry into the home and assisted the woman to safety, the release said, but the man is then accused of attacking the deputies. A Taser was used to gain control of the man, and, during that time, the man bit one of the deputies, but ultimately was restrained, according to the release. The woman, 71, was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva with serious injuries, the release said. She remains hospitalized but in stable condition, officials said. The injured deputy and Uebel were evaluated at Delnor and medically cleared, according to the release. The deputy was released that night, per the news release, and Uebel was taken into the custody of the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Uebel will have a pretrial release detention hearing on June 5.

BIG ROCK TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WGN) — An 18-year-old man was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery of a peace officer after he allegedly bit a sheriff's deputy and physically beat an elderly family member, according to a press release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office (KCSO). Koda Uebel, an 18-year-old man from Waterman, was charged with six felony counts and four misdeamonors counts, which included: Attempted first-degree murder (Class M felony) Aggravated domestic battery (Class 2 felony) Aggravated domestic battery – strangulation (Class 2 felony) Aggravated battery – cause great bodily harm to person 60 years or older (Class 2 felony) Two counts of aggravated battery of a peace officer (Class 2 felony) Domestic battery – physical contact (Class A misdemeanor) Domestic battery – bodily harm (Class A misdemeanor) Resisting a peace officer (Class A misdemeanor) Possession/consumption of alcohol by a minor (Class A misdemeanor) Deputies said they were called to the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue in Big Rock Township around 12:05 a.m. early Saturday morning involving a domestic disturbance between two family members. When deputies arrived, they said they saw a male subject, later identified as Uebel, actively punching, slapping and kicking a female. After deputies said they heard Uebel threaten to kill the victim, they forced entry into the residence. As deputies intervened, they said Uebel attacked the deputies. According to the KCSO, deputies used a stun gun on Uebel to try and get him under control, but he remained combative and bit one of the deputies during the arrest before being restrained and taken into custody. The victim, later identified as 71-year-old Deborah Uebel, was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital with serious injuries, where she remains hospitalized in stable condition. The injured deputy and Uebel were also taken to Delnor Hospital and released later the same day. Uebel was released back into KCSO custody after being medically cleared. DeKalb County man charged with attacking family member, deputies in Big Rock, Illinois
A man was charged with beating a family member and then attacking deputies in Big Rock, Illinois, over the weekend. Koda Uebel, 18, of Waterman, Illinois, was charged with six felonies, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated domestic battery with strangulation, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a person 60 years or older, and two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer. He was also charged with four misdemeanors, including domestic battery with physical contact, domestic battery causing bodily harm, resisting a peace officer, and possession/consumption of alcohol by a minor. The Kane County Sheriff's Office said on Saturday, just after midnight, deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in progress involving two family members at a home in the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue. Deputies, through a locked front door, saw Uebel punching, slapping, and kicking a 71-year-old woman, whom he also threatened to kill. After deputies forced their way to intervene in the assault, Uebel attacked the deputies. A Taser was deployed on him, but he remained combative and bit one of the deputies during the arrest, causing injury, the office said. Uebel was eventually restrained and arrested. The woman was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital with serious injuries and remains hospitalized with her condition stabilized. The injured deputy and Uebel were also taken to Delnor Hospital for evaluation and treatment. The deputy was released the same night, and Uebel was released into the custody of the Kane County Sheriff's Office. He is due back in court on June 5.
